Good compliment to book—needs a few improvements
I am a big fan of Mike Matthews and his TLS book for women. I have purchased his shredded chef cookbook and the one year workout book as well. I think this app is a good virtual compliment to these workout books and breaks things down easily. I found the flow to be pretty intuitive and like its simplistic nature. At first it took me a bit to figure out what TLS and all the other acronyms stood for but then once I did some background searching, it made more sense. I will say the one thing that is really lacking in this app compared to others is GIF videos of the exercise. While I’m sure it’s assumed most people know what these exercises are, I find that this is a pretty common element in the 30+ workout apps I’ve tried (I have a bit of an obsession) and is pretty important here—if for any reason, to help prevent injury when you’re lifting heavy. I think this coupled with some minor adjustments to cater to the quarantine/closed gym lifestyle would be huge improvements to this app. I think having a recommended at home sub for certain gym equipment workouts, like lat pull downs, would make this a more versatile app in this day in age where most people are working from home. Or if you’re like me and have a baby and making it to the gym is near impossible. Otherwise always a fan of Mike and his material.
Great program. App takes time to learn but overall good
So far I love the lifting programs that this app provides as well as how it tracks. It takes a lot of the work out of having to put Mike’s principles into play. I wish the interface in the app was a little more intuitive. I needed the manual to figure out some of the activities. For example, I would never have figured out that I had to drag the chosen workout routine into the “active” space in order to start it. I also wish there was an exercise tutorial or instruction database within the app. I’m not a very experienced lifter so I don’t know all of the exercises by name. Or if there are tutorials or instructions already not the app, I’d wish they were easier to find lol. I do like how much you can access without ads or in-app purchases.
It would also be nice to be able refer back to my workouts and see the PR’s from that workout. I can only see the trophy’s right after I finish a workout before I press complete.
Best workout tracker
Edit: Downloaded the updated version and it is a mess. The graphics and interface are a little slicker, but everything else is worse. The app now appears to store data on a server so navigating between pages, editing workouts, or any other function takes 4-5 seconds to load, which makes the app frustrating to use. Workouts either don’t get logged or get double logged. The app actually has less functionality than the original version, as the developers got rid of body measurement tracking for some reason. And on top of everything, the new app erased all user data, so my trackers and workouts for the last 2 years have been erased. Bottom line - the updated app is substantially worse than the original version. I’m having to look for a new app. Sure wish the developers would add the original version back to the App Store. I would gladly go back.
This is the best workout tracker I've found, and I've tried quite a few. It's extremely versatile and intuitive, only takes a few minutes to learn to use, and can create virtually unlimited custom workouts. You can also track all your body measurements, weight loss, and strength gains/one rep max's in one single app. If you are looking for a workout tracker for weight lifting, resistance training, circuit training, body weight training, etc, this is it.
