Build your resilience and focus on what matters.

Stoa is the Stoic Meditation and Journal app for practitioners and doers. It combines the practical philosophy of Stoicism with mindfulness meditation.

Stoicism is "Buddhism with an attitude." Emerging from ancient Greece and Rome, it is a philosophy that has been adopted by entrepreneurs, athletes, and psychologists. The philosophy inspired the development of cognitive-behavioral therapy, an effective treatment of anxiety and depression. Stoicism has helped millions of people improve their focus, resilience, and virtue. Recently it has been championed by authors like Tim Ferriss, Ryan Holiday, Massimo Pigliucci, Donald Robertson, and Nassim Taleb.

Stoa includes:
* Hours of guided meditations.
* A private journal.
* Thousands of quotes. Curated by author and philosopher Massimo Pigliucci with readings and analysis from his Stoic Meditations podcast.
* Conversations with experts.

The meditation course begins by introducing the core Stoic disciplines of judgment, desire, and action. Through meditating regularly, you can practice these disciplines. In this course, you will also be introduced to the key Stoic philosophers: Epictetus, Marcus Aurelius, and Seneca.

After completing the introductory meditation course, Stoa introduces more advanced Stoic meditations such as the view from above, praemeditatio malorum, and meditations on death and gratitude.

With the hours of guided meditations and a journal, you too can practice Stoic philosophy and apply the principles to your life.

Stoa also includes a journal. Use Stoic principles and questions as prompts to build a daily journaling routine.

In addition to guided meditations and a journal, Stoa includes a library of stoic quotes and principles. The philosopher and author Massimo Pigliucci personally curated and sourced more than a thousand quotes. You can turn to these quotes and principles anytime.

Stoa also optionally integrates Apple's HealthKit, allowing you to track your mindful sessions.

Invaluable daily practice

I’ve been looking for something like this for a while. I’m the last few months I’ve started the habit of waking up early and sitting with some of the original texts, copying a passage in a journal, and writing some thoughts. (This was something I started with Kathryn Koromilas’ Stoic Salon group.) I am now finishing that with a meditation from the Stoa app, which provides a good reset and gets me ready to start the day.

Over the years of trying to practice Stoicism, one thing I’ve learned is that consistent daily practice is absolutely essential. If you’re not starting each day by getting ready for what’s coming, your thoughts and judgments will derail you. This discipline is a skill just like any other, and like all skills, practice and training are required to keep them sharp.

The Stoa meditations are well thought out with excellent narration, and the perfect length. The interviews give me something to listen to if I have to drive somewhere. Well worth the subscription. Thank you for making this.

INCREDIBLE meditation session

Light me start off by saying I’ve never written an app review. I’ve used multiple other meditation apps for a number of years (Headspace, Calm etc) but I stumbled across Stoa recently.

I have had the best meditations I’ve had in quite awhile with this app. I love how you receive stoic quotes to ponder while controlling your breathing and the meditations are not generic like many other apps. This truly gives you paradigm shifting ideas to consider while meditating. The journaling feature option after each meditation is really handy too. I didn’t think I would use that part of the app much but it’s actually really refreshing to write down a sentence or two of thoughts after meditating.

I give this app my highest recommendation and it will continue to be one of the apps on my phone that will be used daily. If you’re interested in learning about the stoic mindset and meditation, this app is for you without a doubt.

Essential Daily Practice

I find myself using the Stoa app both at the beginning of the day and the end of the day.

I love the quotes, back-stories, and related meditations that are loaded with thought-provoking questions. There’s great value in having the quotes, meditations, lessons, view-from-above perspectives, interviews, and a personal journal all bundled together in one app.

If self-mastery is something that you aspire to, then Stoa can help you to make more progress in less time by guiding you through the process of setting your intentions and reflecting on your actions. A must-have for any student of Stoicism.
