And I thought you cared

I own a SubZero side by side and echo others’ sentiments about the app being, well, let’s just say abysmal. First, I got an unknown error when trying to register the fridge, so it’s not registered yet. Next, instructions for setting the time zone, which didn’t work, include something along the lines of, “if it gets stuck, exit and restart the app,” indicating that they’re aware of the defect but have not prioritized fixing the bug. I restarted the app and presto! My time zone now works. So be it, we can’t fix all the bugs, but in the world of UX this matters - I’m not even in the app and it hardly works yet. Then there’s the issue of which filter I should purchase. My app is telling me that both the air and water filter need immediate replacement so when I click on “order filter,” none of my information is carried over to the store (which is in a browser and not the app itself). I have to type in my serial number or model number, depending on whether it’s water or air filters I’m looking for, even though the app contains all this information. It doesn’t help that water filters are out of stock… for a premium appliance at this price point, I am shocked at the lack of basic functionality in this app.

One star for a nice idea

For the amount SubZero and Wolf appliances cost, it would be nice if they invested in some QA of what is a pretty basic app - this thing crashes on a regular basis. It’s also *really* annoying to have to hit “Skip” every time I start up the app to get past intro screens I’ve seen a hundred times - if there was a “don’t show this again” checkbox I’d check it enthusiastically.

In the most recent version, I launch the app only for it to tell me it’s “connecting” to my oven and fridge, before eventually timing out and blaming it on WiFi problems (even though I can see both appliances happily connected to my Eero system, and I still get notifications from the oven). If I go to the fridge in the app, tell it to remove the fridge, wait for it to fail to do that, force quit the app, and then relaunch, somehow everything works. I have to do this daily at the moment.

Does anyone test this, even once for the most basic use case? If so, please find another line of work.

Works when instructions followed…

As the app instructions indicate - keep the range opened and off during the set up process. Initially, I didn’t do this, and had issues. Then I did, and the setup completed successfully. Simple.

Once set up, the app conveniently allows you to monitor the status of the range, set timers, and even remotely control the range (though it only lets you do this if you manually select the “connect” setting first… a little annoying, but I suppose this is a safety feature). Is this app the greatest thing since sliced bread? Not really, but then again, what else would one want it to do? Perhaps integration with Apple HomeKit/similar IOT home setups to allow better remote use. At the same time, should you really ever be so far from your range that remote use is all that helpful/necessary?

Rhetorical questions aside, this app deserves more than 1.3 stars. Thanks, Wolf!
