Water Safety for the entire family.
Children and adults can have fun learning to be safer in and around water with Swim by the American Red Cross and sponsored by The ZAC Foundation. Knowing how to swim is exciting and opens the door to many opportunities, but water is not without risk. Learning to enjoy the water safely should be the first step for anyone who will be around water.
Swim helps the entire family by focusing on water competency which involves a combination of being water smart, having water safety and survival skills, and knowing what to do in a water emergency. This app teaches users the layers of protection to prevent drowning and about risks around water at home, in other environments, such as lakes, rivers and oceans, as well as in risky situations, such as group gatherings involving water.
Swim helps get the most out of Red Cross swim lessons with a skills progress tracker, sharable badges videos and more while making learning fun!
Specific features include:
- Proactive drowning prevention guidance, including how to provide active supervision around water and choosing a quality swim lesson program.
- Videos, infographics and links to additional resources for adults to help further understanding.
- A Kids section with water safety messages using memorable phrases to reinforce learning.
- Sharable badges for adults and children to reward achievements for mastering knowledge and/or skills.
- Videos that show what performance to expect during the progression of learning to swim.
- Charts to track the skills and water safety topics your young swimmer will learn at each Learn-to-Swim level.

Ratings and Reviews
As a swim instructor I like this App. I think it is a great way for parents to track students progress. I like the lessons for children, but wish they added games instead of just information and quizzes. Hopefully this could be something they could improve in the future.
This app is fantastic as you are able to track multiple children via their own profile at a time. There are few bugs and no “help” option to request they get fixed.
Great! But also lacking some.
This is an awesome app for Water Safety Education and the promotion of Red Cross Swimming Lessons, however, one thing to be noted is the 'Find Classes' feature is not very applicable due to the fact that Red Cross LTS classes are not required (and rarely are, if ever) pre-registered with the Red Cross before the class begins. This makes it so then people, when looking for classes, can easily be mislead into thinking that there are no classes around. It may be better to instead offer a search/directory of LTS-registered facilities in the area. I like the integration of WHALE tales too! Also, as mentioned in previous reviews, something for instructors could be very beneficial, perhaps something along the lines of having an interface (or maybe even separate application) that allows for the checking-off of skills, class schedules, rosters, all information that they can input. Just a thought. Besides that, great for the every-day swim parent! However, why has it not been optimized for the iPad yet? I wish that, like the rest of the Red Cross applications, Swim would have the same.
Note- it was fairly difficult for me to find the App, even after going to the American Red Cross Developer page, I could not find it until today (and I have been searching on the App Store for about a week)
PS- I am a Certified Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard
