Description
Teen Counseling lets you connect with a licensed therapist who specializes in helping teens like you. Whenever you need and wherever you are, just text your therapist or schedule a video or phone call. Your therapist is here to help you thrive!
HOW DO I START?
Invite your parent(s) to sign up. They fill out a consent form for you (required by law)
Once your parent subscribes, you will be matched with a licensed therapist and invited to your own therapy room
Your therapist will communicate with you on the Teen Counseling app using text, phone, and video
WHY DO I NEED PARENTAL CONSENT?
As required by law, a parent or legal guardian must fill out a consent form before you can receive online therapy services.
HOW DOES THERAPY WORK?
You and your therapist will get your own “room.”This will be your place to communicate with your therapist day or night. You can access this room from any internet connected device, wherever you are.
You can write about yourself, the things going on in your life, ask questions and discuss the challenges you’re facing. Your therapist will login to the same room and respond with feedback, insights and guidance.
Together you’ll work towards making a positive change in your life, accomplishing your goals and overcoming your troubles.
IS WHAT I SHARE WITH MY THERAPIST PRIVATE?
Your parent will not have access to this room. You can talk to your therapist about anything, but there are a few things that they would be required to share with either your parents or other adults. If you share any of the following issues with your therapist, they would have to break confidentiality for your protection or the protection of others:
• If you are seriously contemplating severely harming yourself or someone else.
• If you share with your therapist that you are being abused or neglected, or know of another individual under 18 who is being abused or neglected.
• If you share with your therapist that you know of an elderly person who is being abused or neglected.
Please consult with your therapist about what kind of information and updates your parent(s) may get regarding your work with your therapist.
WHO ARE THE THERAPISTS?
We require every Therapist providing services on the Platform to be an accredited, trained, and experienced licensed U.S. psychologist (PhD / PsyD), licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), licensed professional counselor (LPC), or similar applicable recognized professional certification based on their state and/or jurisdiction. Therapists must have a relevant academic degree in their field, at least 3 years of experience and at least 1,000 hours of hands-on experience.

Ratings and Reviews
The app seems good, but I wish it was more accessible (the 5 starts is a lie, just to get me up)
So I’m going to be straight forward, i am a 14 year old girl with family issues and mental illness (autism and ADHD), I also go to an online school so I don’t talk to people much, part of my family thinks it’s unnecessary for me to get therapy even tho I’ve been through so much, and won’t put me in any programs, so I wanted to download this in secret and try to get myself help while I still can, untill I found out parents have to sign a form and pay for the therapy, I get every worker should be paid for what they do but there should be some kind of option for kids like me who are struggling and just need someone to talk too, I don’t even need advice I just need someone to listen, but every app I’ve tried is never good.
Cannot understand the positive reviews *EDIT*
I simply cannot comprehend the positive reviews for this app. I paid $400 every four weeks for more than two months for one single half hour appointment. The counselor was either on vacation, had extremely limited hours or would arbitrarily cancel appointments, which are only a half an hour. I contacted TeenCounseling three times to discuss my frustrations and no one even bothered to respond. I would not have resorted to online therapy if not for the pandemic but this app has guaranteed that I’ll never try it again. Please save your money and find a service that demonstrates care and concern for their clients. What a tremendous waste.
* DO NOT be fooled by Teen Counseling’s responses to poor reviews. They will completely ignore any inquiries, pleas or other correspondence. I contacted them four times in two months and never received a single reply. They sure were quick to respond to my negative review though. As if by leaving the same exact email address that I’ve used four times before would Garner any kind of response. I did try again and as you could likely predict they didn’t respond. Again. I had high hopes for this service as my son heads to college across the country but they’re clearly only concerned with your subscription fees - definitely not concerned with your children’s well being.
Developer Response ,
Hello there,

Have a good day!
SO THANKFUL FOR THIS APP
I’ve never written a review before but it frustrates me that there are so many bad reviews on this! I have been using this since October of 2018 - about 7 months ago. At that time, there was a LOT of bad controversy about better help after Shane dawson was sponsored by them. This made me skeptical, but I felt inclined to at least try it for myself anyways after watching a video with a in depth good review on it.
I was in the worst mindset I had ever been when I began consoling. The lady I got paired with was a perfect match right away. She’s quite responsive and I feel there’s a mutual trust. Before this I was terrified to do therapy young because my sister had a terrible experience at a nearby center. I couldn’t be more happy to do therapy online. I genuinely look forward to my sessions. She helped get me out of a really bad place.
