Description

TreeMap allows you to navigate anywhere on Stanford's campus. Unlike other navigation platforms, TreeMap includes Stanford-specific locations (like room numbers, dorm names, etc) in its search results. TreeMap closely integrates with the Marguerite public API to provide step-by-step directions to navigate the bus system. In addition, it provides voice-assisted walking and biking directions throughout campus.

Bold and praiseworthy attempt, but falls short on a lot of areas

This app has been somewhat helpful in my move to Stanford. However, there are a lot of features and bugs in the app still that make it still feel like it’s in its beta testing stage.

I have the most issues with the “shuttle” navigation. For example, when I tried to travel from west to east campus, the app took me from the School of Medicine area all the way outside of campus to a Marguerite shuttle stop that wasn’t even there. As a new student, I had no clue there was a much closer shuttle stop right next to the Medical area (next to the Neuro building).

Additionally, this app is very buggy. For example, many “intermediate stops” never show for the shuttle. This is very unhelpful and should be fixed. Additionally, it would be helpful if there was some semblance of a live shuttle map. It looks like the implementation of this app relies on some published Stanford Marguerite schedule. This is often far off when shuttles actually arrive. I had to actually wait an extra 20 minutes at a stop because of this app.

Overall, they need to massively overhaul the shuttle features of this app. Maybe the bike routes make sense, but many students depend on the shuttle, and this is not dependable whatsoever.

Not up to date

The main GSB residence is called Jack McDonald, although everyone calls it JMac. It’s not even on the map; if you type in “Jack m” nothing comes up. Not even an error message. Not useful if it’s not updated
