In the mood for something seriously scary? Book a one-way trip to Resident Evil Village. This gritty horror adventure sends your hero—family man Ethan Winters—to a creepy town in the backwoods of Eastern Europe as he searches for his kidnapped baby daughter. Collect weapons while plunging into a world of snarling wolfmen, screeching gargoyles, and a squishy, glistening monster so ghastly you’ll have to hide under a bed to avoid it.

As the eighth major entry in the Resident Evil series, Village includes plenty of references to previous installments, but even those new to the series will enjoy the thrills and chills of this hamlet of horrors.

What we love: The incredibly atmospheric visuals. From a towering gothic castle to a sprawling, decrepit factory, each location is packed with jaw-dropping detail and a delicious sense of dread. And while you’re being hunted by Lady Dimitrescu—a 7-foot-tall vampire with giant claws—you can make Village’s visuals as fluid as they are frightening by enabling Metal 3’s MetalFX upscaling feature. Who knew terror could look so good?

Can you brave the horrors of the hauntingly beautiful—but totally terrifying—Resident Evil Village?

Quick tip: Red areas on your map still have items or secrets left to discover, like a vase you can break to find ammo or a hanging birdcage you can shoot to recover some cash. Take a closer look! Once the area turns blue, you’ve found everything hidden there. And don’t fret if you come across seemingly impassable locked gates—you’ll find the proper key for each in due time.

Meet the creator: Japanese videogame giant Capcom has built some of the industry’s biggest franchises, including Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and Mega Man. Resident Evil Village is only the second game in the series (after 2017’s Resident Evil 7: Biohazard) to use a spooky first-person perspective.
