I had a great experience with luno, not only can you easily buy bitcoin and ethereum through their platform - they support crypto currency conversion to ZAR at very low transaction cost, difficult to find a place online supporting South Africa and ones you do find charge massive fees. The last few days bitcoin dropped a lot, and with that comes opportunity to buy BTC at low prices - and even with the influx I would assume luno had to deal with I appreciate the customer service ensuring they release the fees into my luno wallet to respond to market change, (deposited money Friday morning, before weekend and Christmas, next morning it was available) excellent!!! My Luno account was level 3 verified. After a transaction didn’t go through I’ve send them a query about it, they told me my account was locked as a security precaution. To unlock it I had to send a photo of me with my ID included and a handwritten note with the date and stating 'For Luno Use Only'. Once they received it, they informed me that I had to answer 6 questions about my account, which I have sent through and then they requested my PDF Bank statement reflecting deposits made into your Luno account. Which I have sent through as well. I received a call from Luno, asking me the same questions that I have answered per email and more. The agent told me that all the information was sent to a specialized team and being reviewed and rest assured they are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Four days later they send me a message to review there service. I asked them if my issue was resolved and if my account was unblocked. They responded with this “ This is just to let you know that your Luno account is now closed. To reiterate our initial message, Luno’s decision to close your account is final, so we have to ask that you don’t attempt to open another Luno account.” No reason is provided for there action and when I asked them about it they do not respond. The issue about my account wasn’t resolved instead they closed it. Luckily I withdraw my money before they have closed my account. I’m using Edge Crypto Wallet now, there costumer service is amazing, answered all my questions and they don’t require half the information as Luno did.

Do not trust this app I was forced to close account and trade at a loss
Casual crypto buyer
I used this app for years and thought it was trustworthy. On 16 May 26 I just received a mail out of the blue notifying me they were closing my account in one week. No reason given outside saying after review of my account they decided to close it. I am not an active crypto guy so I bought some coins years ago and just left it and added a bit again here and there. Mostly bitcoin and etherium. When I actually saw the notification I had only two days left but thought no problem, I will just transfer my crypto elsewhere, guess what? Sending crypto service was disabled on my account. After many attempts and time running out I simply had no choice but to sell . Overall I was up but lost on the last few transactions. The point is they cancelled my account with only a week notice and then disabled my ability to transfer coins out forcing me to convert to dollars when I did not want to sell, therefore not a trustworthy place to invest your money at. Don’t use!

Worst Service I have ever had

So me and my partner wanted to buy bitcoin for his new account as he newly registered with Luno, we used my card for this transaction which was just a small amount of R310 which declined, so I then decided to purchase bitcoin for my luno account with this amount of R310 using my nedbank card, did not know it’s a beginning of a night mare! They blocked my account saying my card was being use on another person’s account, that means I cannot withdraw my money from my luno account, fare enough. So they asked me to verify send them my picture and holding the date of that specific day, as well as a message stating for Luno use only. Then also send a picture of my card showing my details. Which I did. Fine they came back, saying that I should never use my card to purchase bitcoin for someone else, which is fine. I was not aware. So I thought cool it will be opened. Nope they came back asking that I send my statement showing the amount I deposited to Luno this year, they gave me the specific months, I sent my bank statement showing clearly the amount and I stated! So they came back again asking me to send the proof of payment of the R310 amount which I bought for my Luno. So I sent the Nedbank statement showing the R310 coming off my account. Don’t they come back saying no they need the Proof of payment showing luno plus my name…okay I phone my bank and ask them this because the amount is not reflecting on my mobile app. So my bank says no a card payment will not reflect under recent payment. So you use the bank statement as proof of payment. My bank sent me a bank statement agin which I forward to Luno. They tell me no they need a proof of payment. Ok which proof of payment again do they need! The money purchasing Luno from my bank account is clear! Do they want to frustrate me in order to ask for closure of account so they can keep the funds in my account! How many people will they do this to so they can end up keeping their funds. I want my R310 out of your Luno account and close this account! Luno
