We haven’t really let our daughter (7) use apps and she is so excited about getting to do money missions on this one! We both get a little notification when she gets her savings account deposit from me on Saturdays, and we set it so that a small amount of that goes to her debit card (with a design she picked, with her name on it and everything!) for spending. We have been using this for a year before the app became Acorns Early and was still GoHenry. She learns in the app on her own and will bring questions or discussion topics to us about money and how the world works. I had no education on this stuff until I was a teen, it makes me feel so proud that I’m raising a kid who has a great foundation and will continue to learn as she grows.

Major Issue with Refund Processing and Ledger
allblackrugby
While the concept of Acorn Early is solid for teaching kids about money management, there’s a significant problem with their payment processing capabilities that parents should know about. When my daughter needed a refund from Etsy (a routine merchant refund), Acorn Early claimed they “cannot process it” because it wasn’t a “reversal of the original charge.” This makes no sense - standard debit cards handle merchant refunds as credit transactions all the time.Acorn’s customer service insisted this was a limitation of their system. Additionally, during one call, they admitted to having system issues that are causing transaction logs to be inaccurate - which raises serious concerns about account monitoring and reconciliation. This means if your child needs any kind of refund - whether from a return, cancellation, or even fraud protection - you may be stuck fighting with both the merchant and Acorn to get the money back. Worse, you can’t even trust that the transaction history you’re seeing is accurate. The Bottom Line: If you’re looking for a debit card for your child, consider options from traditional banks that have full payment processing capabilities. The investment features are nice, but basic banking functions like processing refunds should work seamlessly.Would I recommend? Not until they fix their payment processing limitations.

Thank you for leaving us a review. Refunds are commonly received into the Acorns Early accounts and we are able to accept these in different ways. If a particular refund has been rejected, it may be due to card details being used.As a service for children helping them grow money skills and learn financial literacy, we understand the importance of the statements being reliable and we want our customers to have confidence in these. Our statements should always show correctly and will reconcile to update accordingly with real-time spending and activity within the account. I am sorry to hear that you have encountered an issue with a refund and that your recent experience has raised concerns about the statement as well. This certainly doesn’t sound right or an experience that we would wish for any customer to have with us. As I’m unable to locate your account, could I please ask you to email help@acornsearly.com with the subject ‘FAO Supervisors’ so that we can take a further look into this for you.
A Fantastic Tool for Teaching Kids Financial Responsibility
American061983
I am thoroughly impressed with Acorns Early, giving it a solid 5-star rating. This app has been instrumental in teaching my children the value of money and the importance of saving. By linking chores to earning, Acorns Early brilliantly gamifies the process of financial education, making it engaging and fun for kids. The interface is incredibly user-friendly, which is crucial when dealing with young users. My kids have enjoyed watching their savings account grow visually through the app, which not only motivates them to continue their chores but also teaches them about the benefits of saving. The visual design of the app is appealing, keeping my children interested and involved. It's clear that Acorns Early has been designed with both educational value and user experience in mind. My kids are now more responsible and eager to help around the house, knowing they can earn money through their efforts.Overall, Acorns Early has activated a sense of responsibility and financial awareness in my children that I hadn't seen before. It's an excellent tool for parents looking to instill good financial habits in their kids from an early age. Highly recommended!

Great allowance app
halo0714
I highly recommend this app for managing allowance. It allows for a weekly allowance plus optional opportunities turn extra money by doing chores, etc. You can transfer money back-and-forth from the parent account and the child account, so it makes it convenient to exchange money. We use this feature frequently when we are out somewhere and my daughter realizes she wants something but she doesn't have her debit card. In that case, I pay for the item, and then I go into the app and transfer that amount from her debit card back into my parent account. So much easier than keeping track of IOU's and UOME's. I've been using Go Henry/Acorns Early for a couple of years now, and have recommended it to many friends.
