Used Orca on a 47’ sailboat during a round Vancouver island race. Worked amazingly well. While we didn’t always follow its predicted line for sailing, it always makes the eta within 20 minutes. Very impressed. Chart coverage is great in the PNW. Auto route woes great too.
I really want to like Orca, … BUT

Orca is just not ready for prime time. I'm using the app alongside Navionics for over a year now and was hoping to replace the nav on my boat with Orca however:The auto routing is not working properly. The latest bug is when I plan a route from my home port Orca is picking a start point in a river about 5 miles away that on top of everything has low bridges. Even after moving my start outside the marina, it doesn’t change. Also, I was trying to route to an anchorage about 10 Miles away and Orca tells me the route is too long.Charts from the Bahamas are only usable if you use the satellite overlay to see where the shoreline is. If you don't you will see random roads in the ocean and no shoreline. In some parts of the Long Island Sound I was trying to route to an anchorage, but Orca cut the route short at some random point about 3 miles from where I wanted to go.All in all, I like the look and feel of the app, it's just not there yet as my primary navigation system. I'll probably continue to play with it and hope they get their act together.P.S. As mentioned all my experiences are US East Coast and Bahamas. The app might work better in other parts of the world.
Terribly broken
There are some who call me, Tim
Took me forever to create an account. Apple sign in didn’t work. For some silly reason I spent time to it figure out (despite worthless error messages, a confused fire base backend, and an unhelpful AI that asked for my phone number). I guess I was motivated by “free”.Well, it ended up being a waste of time as this app doesn’t work as a basic chart plotter. Good luck pulling up details of a bouy. If the app doesn’t feel like rendering text alongside it at the zoom level you’re at, well I guess you’re not going to get any more info. The “at this location” screen is perversely too sparse on data “starboard lateral mark” AND too verbose as overlapping restricted areas take all available screen real estate and you can’t even scroll to the last ones.As far as data goes, this is purely coastal. Inland rivers in the US have occasional bridge heights listed, nothing else.Complete waste of my time and not worth any space on my phone (even though free). Maybe in a couple years if real mariners start using it.
Orca is not useful nor user friendly
Captain Cortez
The app is not designed to be used easily for navigation. It’s impossible to enter an actual start point based on desire or current location, and impossible to enter way points that are desired. There are no features present such as type of data that could be obtained, wind, current, weather, predicted, estimated, speed or actual? Perhaps there is a way to unlock “dumb demo” mode? There are no menu options, nothing, seems like a troll?
