Not worth a subscription.
This was a once great app when I purchased it years ago. Then the updates stopped coming and bugs remained with poor support on top of that. I assumed Bloop was focusing on their Mac client but that went on and on. I tried other apps but decided to put up with the crashes and poor excuses for updates as it had some features that other apps did not offer (interface with Pocket Informant) The latest font update was a disaster as I cannot find a setting I like.
Now you want me to purchase a monthly or yearly subscription for push notification and multiple accounts when I already paid for full access? No thanks!!! You have not done anything remotely worthy of additional money from me. If you had been pouring in the features over the years, addressed bugs in a timely manner and had additional extras coming out in an extensive upgrade (that I could try fur free or go back to my paid version) I might have considered a one-time upgrade fee. But making me pay a subscription for features I paid for originally, on top of a already poorly supported app, is going too far.
My advice? Stay away and do not bother to "update" or purchase. This buggy and rarely updated app is not worth any additional fees and certainly not a subscription. I am leaving and will not come back.
There are a zillion mail apps out there. I've tried half of them trying to get the right set of features. And the problem is they are generally designed for the user to use email their way, but different users have different ways of using email. So a few people are happy and the rest of us keep looking. Enter Airmail.
It has so many different options, so each user can customize their experience. Things like: labels/colors (for some Gmail users this has been a missing feature in most apps), menu items and their order, action items and their order (there are about 3 dozen possible actions!!), workflow and appearance, settings for each account, and much more. Sure, that's a little work up front, but it's a lot less work than either using a mail app that doesn't fit a user's needs or setting up a dozen more apps in an effort to find the "right" one. It's well worth paying a few dollars for.
It's not perfect (is really give it 4.5 stars if I could), but I sense that they are constantly improving and expanding their app. I'd like to see slightly better sync response time when quickly making actions on a mail (like marking unread occasionally takes a couple of tries) and more ways to customize notifications off the top of my head. And I'd really love to see a PC version (this started on the Mac). But this is ten times closer to my perfect mail app as I have found. Get it!!
Best multi platform email client since Mailbox app
As a long time fan of Dave Allen’s GTD approach, I’ve tried many apps to manage my whole-life task list, from work to workouts to family obligations. No matter what I try, eventually I always seem to come back to email and a single mailbox. That’s why I was so happy when I found the Mailbox app a couple of years ago, and so sad after Dropbox bought the app, mis-managed the product and killed it. Now, finally, I’ve found a fine replacement in Airmail. The most important features for me: (1) the ability to use multiple email aliases; (2) the ability to snooze a message and have it return to the TOP of my inbox later, synced to ALL of my devices; (3) support on all of my primary platforms, iPad, iPhone and MacOS. A close (4) would be the ability to customize multiple actions to short and long swipes left and right in the message list on my iPhone. The app isn’t perfect; preference syncing across devices is flakey, I think it somehow leaks memory or resources on my phone, it slows down after running for a few hours, it doesn’t always display messages in date order, and it isn’t entirely friendly to keyboard-only use, but the customer support has been great (thanks, Sarah!) and development seems quite active and the product is improving with every release. Definitely worth a look!
