I use the online version of FreshBooks all the time, especially to track time and expenses on the go. The app, even with latest updates installed, was locking up frequently. And it was still tracking time from a job I did quite a while ago even though I have discarded it many times - it was up to 268+ hours! I was frustrated and posted a not-so-nice review of the app. The team at FreshBooks reached out to me almost immediately to see if they could help resolve the issue - and to find out how to fix the problem if there was indeed a glitch in the app. Justin and William worked with me to help me figure out that the problem was that I had not done a recent update and I needed to clear the cache on my device. Once that was completed, the app is working perfectly. It’s very reassuring to have fabulous tech support and a responsive app developer. Thank you!

I only use the mobile app for entering expenses and uploading photos of receipts. Other more detailed functions are difficult to do with thumbs. However a bug in the expense module has persisted on and off for many months: after entering all data you often hit the save button only to see all of your tedious thumb work vanish instantly! The only remedy is to re-enter the expense info on your desktop or laptop machine and then use the mobile app to upload the receipt photo. So at this point the app is a time waster rather than a time saver.Another thing: why isn’t it possible to edit an existing expense to make it a recurring expense? Instead, you have to delete your previous entry and start over to create a recurring expense. Another time waster.How about adding a mileage field to the time tracking module? That way, the user could track mileage and see a total at the end of the year. The IRS requires record keeping to support mileage deductions. Adding a mileage field to time tracking would create the fastest, easiest possible way to comply with the IRS on mileage. I have probably requested this feature 20 times on support calls. It seems to be falling on deaf ears.

I’ve been trying out FreshBooks for a few weeks and while it’s still lacking in some areas, it is pretty good for a free app. I needed something to track/log expenses, mileage, hours and invoices. I use the app along with the online version and set up was fairly straightforward. Both versions are easy to use and I like that the functionality I’m using is free. I like the “duplicate” feature for expenses in the online version and hope they add it to the app soon as it makes logging expenses on the go quicker. I also wish they’d provide the ability to attach more than one image to any given expense. For instance when logging expenses for a trip I would like to be able to bundle the expenses with a combined total and attach multiple receipts to a single expense record. I also wish there was a way to have daily recurring expenses (like parking or mileage) for a given project, instead of just weekly/monthly. Trying to log my parking and mileage daily via the app without the duplicate feature gets tedious. However in the end this is a free app that still has a lot of features so it’s hard to be too critical.

I called twice to confirm that they could ingest and add expense receipts via email. Not only could they not after all, I got this explanation “.. this is a bug our Product Development team has to investigate what caused the bug to occur and then proceed to fix it. Since this process is not linear and requires investigation and searching no ETA can be given.” Weeks later the same. Then I tried to cancel .. this is one of those companies that make you call to cancel. Only an Account Manager can cancel you account. They’d probably say it’s to protect your data or something, but it only took one click to delete my account and all my data, so that argument seems moot. I’m currently ~ 15 emails in and 2 x 46 min+ calls and they still haven’t cancelled. The account manager isn’t answering my calls or calling back. The cost is attractive, but this isn’t a good company to work with. I moved to QuickBooks, not that much better, but at least the features thy promote work.Update: They have still not deleted my account. I have emails form 5 different support people who provide the most confusing messages (like they will anonymize me and after that be unable to communicate). What they still have done, just cancel the account.
