The CoStar app is my favorite resource when in the field. I can swiftly connect with property data and contacts. Those who complain about the app do not remember the days when everything was paper and in person. I can define an area on my ipad and immediately pull up market analytics for the client on site, demonstrating rents & vacancy factors as may be specifically relevant to their property. Clients are always impressed with the rapidity of results!
Two words: User experience

Problem 1: Why should I need to authenticate via text (multiple times a day) on the iPad version (and the web version), but not on my phone.Solution 1: If you’re going to insist on having text authentication, maybe only require it once per account per 12 hours.Problem 2: If I leave the app idle for too long, it logs me out, usually requiring yet another text authentication to get back in again. There doesn’t seem to be any rhythm or reason to how long this idle period is either. Sometimes it’s 2 minutes, other times it’s 30.Solution 2: Set a standard idle logout time, or better yet don’t have one at all. If you’re so worried about your precious data, maybe set it to a standard 8 hours so people only have to log in once a work day.Problem 3: App stability. It’s non-existent. Sometimes it’s fine all day. More often then not, it crashes after a few minutes of use, starting the whole cycle of logging in all over again.Solution 3: Stabilize your app rather than pushing out tiny updates that are mandatory and seem to do absolutely nothing. I’d rather things stay the same for the next 12 months if it means the app won’t crash or freeze up multiple times a day.Problem 3: iPhone version doesn’t show faved PID pins on a map, only a list. This forces me to use the iPad. The phone version doesn’t suffer as badly from the first few problems, so this is added frustration.Solution 3: standardize the app across devices. You’re focused too much on hiding your data from any potential competitor that you’re actively hurting the people who pay good money to use your product. It’s as though you sold someone a phone, but because you’re scared of it being ripped off, you hide all the functionality behind a pay wall and multiple over the top security.Just make the app useable.

Daily desktop user. This app is an absolute waste of my time to scan my phone to my computer screen to log in with every - single - day. Cheers you for screwing your paying customers with this extended log in so you can MAYBE find people who found a loophole. App does not work as well as desktop version.Looks like Costar deleted my last 1 star review? Wish I could give you negative 1 Stars. We also had a looplink through them to link our properties to our website. After 4 months, they still can’t get it right. Our listings seem to be at random - some are not even states we service. Having difficulty with anyone being able to actually personally help. The only helpful person is our property researcher who responds and acts quickly, but doesn’t always have authority to make bigger changes.
Bait and Switch/Subscription is Useless Now

CoStar is rolling out a new security feature that requires users to take a picture of their computer screen to log in to their account. I work on a secure floor at a bank so I’m not able to take a picture of my screen and now I’m locked out of my account but my company still has to pay for it until my subscription comes up for renewal. The subscription fee is a non-trivial amount of money. This is a total bait and switch. Basically, some analysts at a different bank got caught pirating CoStar like nine months ago and the company overreacted and is collectively punishing all of its customers. To add insult to injury customer service hasn’t responded to my email for over a week.
