I’ve never had an issue with this app… It just works, and it works really well. I have a Tama Tension watch, a Tune-Bot Studio and another tuner app but this is by far my favorite and without even thinking about it, my go-to. It’s the simplest to use and most effective and doesn’t cost over $100. Even when I think I have my drums tuned good by ear, I double check on this app and in no time at all I have them sounding even better. There may be a slight learning curve but nowhere near as much as the others I’ve used and the app is loaded with quick access troubleshooting, tutorials, tune graphs and hints, so even if you are new to tuning you should have no trouble at all using this app and getting your drums sounding great. Honestly, this is a very well thought out app with a good design, simple layout and accurate microphone sensitivity, I’m very impressed. Just wanted to say, thank you so much for making this app! Though my old iPhone 5s has its limitations, I was able to convert it into a powerful drum tuning tool using this application. It’s quite convenient, intuitive, easy to use, etc. The lug equalizer feature is excellent, and I also appreciate being able to save the tunings used before so I can get the exact same tuning another day. I have really learned a lot while using this app, training my ear to hear specific intervals, understanding tuning science, and much more.Before I got this app, I was lousy at tuning drums. They had many overtones, yet were also in a way completely dead as well. Since then, I’ve used iDrumTune quite a lot, and it has worked very well for me! I’ve learned a lot more about tuning drums, to the point that I can make a drum kit sound fairly decent without my phone. If you are still learning how to tune drums, or looking for a less expensive alternative to TuneBot, I can’t recommend iDrumTunePro enough.It was worth every cent of the money I paid. First of all the developer responds to questions and is very supportive. I was told that this app was not designed with hand drums in mind, from the developer, but it is coming.I found that trying using the lug tuning mode on these drums but did not get uniform results. I did notice the in pitch tuning mode the tune, was very accurate.Here is the procedure that I use on Congas, Bongos, and Djembe’s.Loosen all lugs. Finger tightening all lugs in a star pattern to just the point that you fell a slight resistance. The Goal being to not allow the drum head to get lifted on the starting side.Once finger tight, use pitch tuning mode, and take a reading by hitting the drum head at each lug. I use a felt mallet, and hit the head about 1.5" from the bearing edge directly between the lug and the center of the drum head.Next tune all lugs to the closest frequency. Once you have all the lugs tuned at their lowest base frequency, you now have a equal tuning starting place.Next in a circular tuning pattern start tuning the drum up to the next frequency. This will be in small increments. I turn the wrench a 1/4 of it’s possible total movement.I keep tuning up in frequency until I reach the first whole major note. In the case of my Djembe this was a A @ 220 Hz. With all lugs tuned to 220 Hz at 1.5" from the bearing edge, hitting the drum at dead center yielded a frequency of 55 Hz which is an A note at a lower octave.I hope you find the useful.

I’ve been tuning drums by ear since I started drumming; this app is a game changer. It made my new toms and snare sound so smooth and beautiful! I’ve learned more about tuning drums in 10 hours of using this app than I have in the last 20 years of drumming. Just don’t make the same mistake I did… Even though I watched all the tutorial videos before starting, I spent 2 hours trying to tune my bass drum with this thing and really struggled before I finally read this paragraph from section 14 of The Science of Tuning: “Kick drum tuning is often more about damping than pitch, because the vibration frequencies are so low. Unfortunately, the microphone on the iPhone is not good enough to analyze the fundamental frequency of most kick drums, though the methods described can still be used for tuning a kick drum from scratch and clearing the drumheads on a kick drum.” I really wish that information had been presented earlier, but all in all, this is a great tool for any drummer.4 stars instead of 5 because of a major usability issue affecting my iPhone 7 Plus. When the app is minimized on my phone (when I take a call, open an email, or anything else that requires me to minimize the app), the microphone stops functioning even when I reopen iDrumTune. This results in me having to quit the app and reopen it which means I’m frequently reloading my preset kits. This app has so much potential! Please keep doing what you’re doing, and I thank you for your efforts.
