If you’re new to tracking your macros, go for this app. So many food tracking apps suffer from “we’re gonna put a whole bunch of useful functions behind a paywall, but we’re also going to add a whole bunch of bells and whistles you don’t need so paying feels justified.” This is not that, and I’m super grateful for it - all the most useful functions are available with the basic plan. It’s also super user-friendly and has a clean and tidy layout. The only other feature I would want is this — as someone who is working on building a healthy relationship with food, I always get a little spike of panic whenever I see the red “You’ve gone over” signal. I would love a feature that allows me to turn this off - just the red warning part of it — so even if I go over in one area of my macros that day, it’s just stays white like normal, so I can have the accurate numbers without the panic.
Great but two major annoyances

I’ve been using this app for a couple months now and overall am very pleased. The number of features they provide on the free version is impressive! And I rarely have to manually enter a food (even for restaurants) because the number of items they already have is so vast. But I can’t for the life of me figure out why I need to essentially confirm adding food to the journal TWICE. You click into the meal, search or scan your food, insert the amount and save. But that simply adds it to a queue that you have to save again! I have had to redo so many entries because if you don’t save it the second time and you leave the app for too long it wipes out everything you’ve entered. Even if I remember all the details it’s super frustrating to have to enter it again. But it’s even worse when I have no recollection of the serving size and there’s no way for me to retrieve that. I use a scale a lot, so if I haven’t taken down the weight somewhere else, that information is just gone. I wish it would save it to my day the first time. Then if I get pulled away and can’t finish entering everything from my meal in one session, it’s there for me to pick up and finish later. I have ADHD and a toddler so I rarely finish entering everything from my meal in one session. Saving too aggressively is much easier to recover from than saving too conservatively. I’d much rather have to delete things that were saved too soon than lose information I can’t get back because it’s saved too late. Also my husband and I share meals and recipes back-and-forth quite frequently. When I open a recipe he shared with me and select log it to my day a date picker and list of meals shows up. If I select the meal but then change the date, it resets the meal and I have to enter it again! The meal selection should not be affected by the date picker. This one is more of a nuisance than a functional issue, but it’s still aggravating. If those two things were fixed this would be a five star review.

Hi there, Thanks for your review and honest feedback. I'm happy to share that you can log foods in one tap: After tapping on a food in the search results and entering your serving size, just tap the "Log" button in the number pad and that logs the food to your Journal -- no need to reconfirm anything, it just gets logged straight away.Regarding the date + meal picker, since different days can have different meals, the meal options to log to do reset when you change the date. For this reason we default you to today's date when saving a meal to a friend but I do understand that it is easy to miss. Best, -JB
A Better App

I have used My Fit Pal for 6-7 years but they have recently remove the scanning bar unless you are a member. It was given to us for free, you can’t take it away and make ppl play for it now! Switch to MacroFirst and loving this app so much more! You can see the macro by section, per food and over all. I have to say thank you to the creator of this app!I think if we can enter the nutrition facts for the food we scan but doesn’t have the information would be better because sometimes it entered the wrong numbers. Hope this app learns to pickup and save all the barcodes from everyone that use this app so no one has to enter it manually.MFP provided us tracking water for fee but this app doesn’t… it’s ok, I rather have the ability to scan my food faster. But the search engine isn’t the best… it needs to be able to find more meals that everyone in this app has made…

Thank you so much! We're constantly adding to and improving our food database to provide greater coverage. Best, -JB
Works well

Overall works well.Suggestions for new features:1.Allow user to calculate calories consumed by the actual macro nutrients instead of the number printed on the nutritional label. When entering a brand new food or has an option to not enter calories and have it be auto calculated, this should also become a profile level setting that you can toggle for how it tracks your calories consumed.2.Introduce some social features aka my fitness pal. When tracking with a partner and you have made a meal, I have to manually share it with that partner so they can log it. If they could see my profile and logs then they could more easily copy that meal/food into their log without me needing to take an action.3. Would like to be able to submit foods for review on the nutritional information. Some things I have scanned did not have correct numbers.
Bug Fixes:
• Fixed scheduled Daily Meals disappearing after viewing a friend's account.
• Fixed dashboard fat totals not matching the Journal on days with an alcoholic beverage logged with "Convert alcohol to macros" enabled.
• Resolved an issue where logging a food with no nutrition data would block every other food from syncing to Apple Health that day.
