Devialet 4+

The app is stable. Graphics are clear, elegant, and subtle. So why do I struggle with it? I feel the app could be better and have more functionality. I have a pair of Devialet Phantom I 108dbs, a Mania, and a Dione. The multi room playback has the slightest delay between room. Also, I think there could be more features, including a spacial setting beyond that of the standard balance left and right. I’d like to manipulate the music a little more than the equalizer allows too. Think more like the Syng app.

I am writing this review over a few issues that I am experiencing. I have 2 Devialet Dione soundbars. They sound great when they work but I have been experiencing connectivity issues with both devices. The first issue is with the app - with a device that costs this much, I would expect that the app would automatically recognize the soundbar every single time the tv is turned on however this is not the case. If I open the app, it tells me I have no devices and I have to go through the entire set up process every time. This is an issue because there is no physical remote that is provided and the entire system uses the app for volume control and custom audio settings (the limited settings it offers). The second issue that I am facing is the connectivity to the tv as a whole. After verifying that the cables and all connections and settings on the tv are correct, the sound will not play through the Dione and I have to disconnect all the cables and power off the device multiple times before it starts working again. I’m not sure if this is software based but this is happening with both units that I own. My hope with writing this review is that these issues can be addressed. Thank you!

Devialet has been working on this update for almost a year and their hard work is refreshing to see. There have been great improvements and the overall stability of a Phantom Premier setup has been drastically improved. No longer requiring a Dialog is also a pleasant surprise as the Dialog runs quite hot and has always been one of the weakest and most unpleasant parts of a Devialet setup. There are some things that are of a concern however with this upgrade. The Phantom Premiers will now play corrupt audio over optical which could potentially damage the speakers. This was not the case with DevialetOS 1.X. There has been a shift in audio and the Phantoms do not sound as they did when initially purchased. An equalizer with the preset used by DevialetOS 1.X would be nice. It would have been also been great to see Airplay2 support. Airplay1 is limited to 16bit/44 and this does not do these speakers any justice. RAAT support would also have been great to see as many Phantom Premier owner use ROON. Overall, thanks for the update and continued support :) And thanks for the ability to prefer Network over PLC. That was severely needed and perhaps a very underrated feature of this App.
