GeoShred Control is a free MIDI/MPE controller for external sound sources. No built-in sounds. You may Optionally upgrade to the functionality of GeoShred Pro.
GeoShred Control Version 7
GeoShred Control is a standalone MIDI/MPE controller based on GeoShred.
Important: GeoShred Control is a MIDI/MPE controller. It does not make sound and does not include a built-in audio engine. It is designed to control external synthesizers, apps, plug-ins, and hardware instruments. It can also be upgraded*** to the functionality of GeoShred Pro. If you already own GeoShred Pro (green icon), you do not need GeoShred Control, because GeoShred Pro already includes MIDI.
GeoShred Control can also be used to control GeoShred Studio for macOS.
Perform external MIDI and MPE instruments with GeoShred’s expressive playing surface. Move seamlessly between fretless and diatonic playing using GeoShred’s isomorphic keyboard and groundbreaking intelligent pitch rounding.
GeoShred Control is especially expressive with instruments that support MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression). It is a powerful iPad and iPhone performance controller, and it can also operate as an AUv3 plug-in that sends MIDI.
GeoShred Control includes an arpeggiator, backing tracks, alternative tunings, world scales and temperaments, and 3D Touch on supported devices. It can be upgraded*** to the functionality of GeoShred Pro, including GeoShred’s powerful physically modeled string instruments.

Minimum Requirements
iOS 13 or later is required for AUv3 support and GeoSWAM and Naada instruments.
* GeoShred Control must be upgraded to the functionality of GeoShred Pro in order to purchase GeoSWAM and Naada instruments.
** Due to App Store limitations, previously purchased individual instrument IAPs cannot be applied to the purchase of a collection IAP.
*** The Pro upgrade is to the functionality of GeoShred Pro. The app remains GeoShred Control, but gains all Pro features and becomes functionally identical to GeoShred Pro.
Happy to say I didn’t need Pro to do what I wanted, namely having a decent approximation of an isometric midi controller. Two notes cannot be played in the same row so that’s a slight limitation on chords. Overall there’s a lot of confusing interface elements but I can just cycle through presets until something is ok. Most of the features don’t work with the software I’m sending the MIDI to, but I understand why and it’s not GeoShred’s fault.
Developer Response
To play 2 notes on the same row go to "Menu> Performance Settings" and chose "Poly" instead of "String". If you have further questions please reach out to support@moforte.com.
Powerful app, well priced as tryout for Pro, great support

I bought GeoShred Control primarily to check out full GeoShred and what I wanted to be my primary use case (to start): recording MIDI tracks into Garage Band on the same iPad (using a third party app called Midiflow to create virtual ports). Control definitely shows you the performance and operation of the app, you just have to use a synthesizer with it to get sounds out. As it turns out, control of GB iOS looks a bit buggy - but not the fault of GeoShred. I have contacted support about 3 times pre and post purchase and it is extremely responsive. One of the developers actually recorded a video showing him testing out my bug case and showing it's a bug in how GarageBand is handling MPE. I went ahead and upgraded to GeoShred Pro so I could get the built in sounds and guitar modeling to play around with and build my interest in learning the isometric layout (I know a bit of keyboard but little of guitar). I think GeoShred Play might be a better intro to the app than Control unless you have a very specific use case in mind (as I did), but you can get to Pro from either. Appreciate their offering both, I wasn't gonna spring for a $25 app without getting a hands-on sense of whether I'd like using it.
Not Impressed

Update: apparently everything I said below was wrong. So I’m giving them 5 stars and dropping it.The design of the UI for this instrument is very poor. I want to give productive feedback, so I’ve detailed what I think could be improved below: 1. Although the design lacks skeuomorphism (which I think is a good thing), it goes to the opposite extreme: there’s no symbol or metaphor for the user to intuitively recognize. For instance, the “explodey thing” animation that happens on touch input is disruptive. I spent a long time looking at it wondering what it means other than a button press. Does the rotation do something? Do the colors mean anything? If not, why are they there? There are many other examples but this one is the most interesting one. 2. Using the “explodey thing” animation as further example, the animation framerates are low. Like so low it causes a disruption in cognition for me. It makes me wonder if my iPad Pro is having latency issues. All in all the interface is a case study in what not to do. I advise the developer to take time to study the elements of good UX. A complete redesign is very much in order.
Developer Response
BrotherDust1) The UI is highly skeuomorphic WHERE IT SHOULD BE. Go to "Model & FX" and look at the effects boxes. The Preset Editor is built around skeuomorphism. 2) What you call the "explodey thing", the star, can be turned off under "settings". However what it's doing is giving you valuble feedback about Pitch Rounding, automatic sliding into perfecti intonation, aka KeyX. And KeyY Expression. Finally, the designed behavior has evolved over 10 years and is based on the feedback of over 200,000 users. Your review is not constructive feedback. You could have viewed the learning materials (Menu> Help) or even reached out to us for assistance to clear up your mis-understandings. It does nothing to contribute to the GeoShred Community.
My other controllers will gather dust

I just stayed up until almost 3AM playing around with this app. I have a few AU plugins (FxPansion’s Strobe and Cypher2, and Madrona Lab’s Aalto and Kaivo) that I was able to control in Logic Pro X. It wasn’t the most intuitive thing to get working (the videos focus more on the Pro version), and I’m still trying to figure out how to make custom assignments to certain AU parameters but, this little app is still super impressive! By the way, I found the best way to get this to interface with Logic Pro X is to connect via Bluetooth. I have both a 2018 iPad (7.5 inch) and MacBook Pro, and they connect flawlessly. It would be great to get more detailed instructions for Control, as they are just kind of the same ones from Pro but, it’s fine. I’ve been able to save myself at least $300 not having to buy a Seaboard
