Take the security of your data into your own hands. Cryptomator encrypts your files before they reach the cloud — so only you hold the key. Not your cloud provider, not us, no one.
Most cloud providers encrypt your data only during transmission, or they keep the decryption keys themselves — keys that can be stolen, copied, or misused. With Cryptomator, the key to your data stays in your hands.
EASY TO USE
Cryptomator is a simple tool for digital self-defense. Protect your cloud data yourself, independently.
• Assign a password to a folder — we call it a vault. That's all: no key creation, no registration, no configuration
• Unlock vaults with Face ID / Touch ID
• Fully integrated into the Files app — browse and open your encrypted files right where you already manage them
• Everything you save into a vault is encrypted automatically
COMPATIBLE
Cryptomator works with the most commonly used cloud storages and is available for all major operating systems.
• Compatible with iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, SharePoint (incl. Microsoft Teams), pCloud, Box, WebDAV- and S3-based cloud storage services
• Create vaults in any location via other File Providers (third-party apps must support this)
• Access the same vaults across all your mobile devices and computers
SECURE & TRUSTWORTHY
You don't have to trust Cryptomator blindly, because it is open source software — everyone can see the code: https://github.com/cryptomator/ios
• No backdoors and no expiration date, thanks to open source
• File content and filename encryption with AES and 256 bit key length
• Vault password secured with scrypt for enhanced brute-force resistance
• Independently audited by security researchers; crypto implementation publicly documented
If someone looks into the folder in your cloud, they cannot draw any conclusions about your data.
AWARD-WINNING
Cryptomator received the CeBIT Innovation Award 2016 for Usable Security and Privacy.

I’d give it five stars, except for a recent problem. I’ve been using Cryptomator with a Dropbox share on an iPhone XS for several years. It has always worked well. A few days ago I replaced that phone with a 15 Pro and now whenever I attempt to open the Cryptomator folder I am told “Error unable to perform unauthorized operation”. This message doesn’t give me much to work with. I’ve tried to modify my Dropbox settings to resolve this error, but haven’t had any success.
Great for my needs (so far)

Because I’m just traveling with my iPad/iPhone, I was able to use the app for 30d in trial mode. The app is free except for the Apple devices where you won’t be able to write without the license. During the trial I kept a duplicate of all files in my Files storage just to make sure I did not lose anything. I was able to save/write to storage, edit files stored in storage, etc. So after the trial ended, I decided to get the lifetime license because I like to keep things that are good. I like to be able to keep my files in the cloud to be free from “sneaky” eyes. And I use GDrive and OneDrive. And everything looks fine. But yesterday, I renamed a folder on my iPad and quickly changed to another folder without waiting for the name change to complete. And now it just says “Unavailable, something happened, an error…” I shut down my device, restarted it and still nothing. And I said to myself “is this what happened to others as I’ve read in some of the reviews?” No. I did not believe so. My virtual copies are still working on my iPhone, which means that I only corrupted the copies on my iPad. So removed the virtual copy from my iPad and added it back again. And Voila! Everything was there. So I believe I made a good choice is believing in this app. It’s a great app and please keep it great. Thank you.
Very buggy and lost files.

I wanted to like this app and support what they are doing, but I don’t know if I can trust it to keep my backup of my files. I get error messages saying I can’t change my password when trying to change my vault password in iCloud. Also when trying to create a folder within a vault it gives two errors saying “You can't use a name that ends with a space. Please choose another name.” And duplicates items already in the vault into an new untitled folder which is very strange. So far it has not convinced me of being a reliable encryption app for my iPhone. I have paid for the full version also. I just copied documents to a vault in iCloud and wanted to move it to another vault in iCloud and now it gives me an error message “The file doesn't exist. The file “example" couldn't be copied because it either doesn't exist or the folder it is being copied to doesn't exist. Then I go look at the folder I just copied and no files are in there with the message “Content Unavailable The folder contents could not be displayed because of an unknown error. Try Again” so where are my files!? What’s the use of encryption if you cannot trust it to backup files correctly in the first place.Any feedback on how to change my iCloud vault password I’m still getting the error even after restarting my phone: ErrorOperation cannot be performedbecause other backgroundoperations for this vault have tofinish first. Please try again later.
Developer Response
Thank you for your feedback! That sounds like a serious issue and we‘re looking into it. It seems like that there is indeed a bug with folder creation that we‘ll fix as soon as possible with an update. In the meantime, try to lock and then unlock the vault again. If you‘re still experiencing data loss, please reach out to support@cryptomator.org.
Can’t say enough good things

I’m extremely grateful for the work the Cryptomator team does for making files in cloud storage private and secure and at a very affordable price. Everything only gets better with this new app with Files integration. The app makes your end-to-end encrypted files feel native and a part of iOS/iPadOS rather than being confined to a separate app. With the new app, I can much more conveniently edit/update files without going through so many steps. FaceID integration is great too. I know I probably sound like a total fanboy right now, but as a privacy advocate and for how great Cryptomator is, the compliments are well-deserved. This app is easily worth the money. Keep up the great work Cryptomator team, and thank you for the great app!
- Fixed the unlock screen in the Files app closing without a message when unlocking fails.
- Fixed Hub vaults opening read-only when Hub is reached through an HTTP/1.1 proxy (#466).
- Fixed files and folders inside a moved folder pointing to their old location (#450, #459).
