more Update: 5 stars and wish I could give 10! The developer (this is a one-man show!) reached out and found the issue. The fix took less than a minute, everything is restored and I’m back to cooking my favorite rrcipes! This is a fantastic app and I look forward to using it for years to come. Thanks Will! Original review: I was one of the original users when the app first became available and as such the cost was for a lifetime of use. I recommended it to many people, all of whom loved it. While it’s been awhile since I used it, but when I opened it today to find all but 1 of my nearly 100 recipes gone and the message that the “free” version only allows me to save 15 recipes! I loved this app but now find it not only useless but need to figure out where I got those missing recipes and print them as I can’t rely on this app to save them! What happened?!
Developer Response Hey, really sorry about this, this is not normal. If you bought lifetime when Pestle launched, you’ve still got it! I think maybe you got logged out for some reason? Please email me through the app and I will make sure this gets sorted. Pestle is made by just one person, so every review means a lot and I promise I’ll make it right :)

This is the nicest simplest app for saving recipes from all sorts of sources. I have saved recipes from Instagram from Facebook and just from an image of a recipe that I saw which I just discovered is one of the coolest things. I just save the thing that I want to make as an image and then go to upload it or share it with With Pestle. and it tells me what to copy and click next, and it creates the recipe for me and then I can use a screenshot of the picture of the food as my main image on it. I love it. The search feature in the app is so great and I can easily find the list of one of the ingredients and I find my recipe. If I could wish one thing for this app, it would be the ability to star my favorite recipes. I save quite a few recipes for the same dish and I can never remember. Which one is the one I like the best. Would be a great feature to add.

#1 — Love this app (so far) mostly because it reformats the recipe to a VERY USER FRIENDLY recipe! It doesn’t save the entire article that the recipe is attached to. No adds no silly pop up’s nothing — just the recipe! This in and of itself puts this app at the top of my list for saving recipes from the internet. #2 — The only hiccup I have come across so far is the fact that about half of the time the app cannot save a recipe. It says it can’t access the url to save it. I’m guessing as the app grows and matures it will overcome this ‘hiccup’. Thank you for creating this very useful app! When the ‘hiccup’ is fixed I intend to up my star rating to 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Update:I have downgraded my review as the initial problem with the app not being able to extract the recipe has gotten worse. At least for me. Almost 100% of the recipes I try to save will not save. It’s very frustrating. Not sure if it’s only me who is having the problem or not. Maybe I’ll use the app at a later date but for now I cannot use it at all.

I’ve used a number of recipe management apps over the years, and Pestle is, hands-down, the best. Recipe import is smooth and flawless. I’ve rarely encountered a recipe it can’t import (usually those annoying ones that include the author’s life story and their insights on Legos vs. Tinker Toys). Serving conversions are simple, the walk through of steps easy and intuitive, and many other things are well thought out. Even the inclusion of timers within the app - sure, your phone or iPad has timers, but it’s easier just to use ones within Pestle. I use this app often, and it quickly ascended to my go-to app for cooking. I find the Discover feature often won’t load the URL of a presented recipe or article but that feature isn’t, in my mind, integral to the app or why I use it. I wish more apps performed their intended mission with this degree of elegance, efficiency, and effectiveness.
Developer Response Thank you so much for such a kind review :) I’m so glad you love Pestle and appreciate all the hard work I put in! If you ever have any issues at all, please don’t hesitate to contact support :)

2.1.9 07/26/2025
Fixed a bug that could prevent recipes from being able to be added to the meal plan in select screens.

New:
- Ingredient sections are now supported on more sites

- When searching, certain characters could fail to produce results some times.
- The keyboard couldn't be dismissed when searching.
- The Meal Plan widget would use low quality images.
- Pestle could crash when adding a recipe to a folder.
- Shared recipes couldn't be opened.

– You can now get to timers from the recipe viewer page by tapping the … button.
Fixes:

Saving recipes is a lot easier in Pestle 2.1!
What’s New:
– You can now import recipes from Paprika, Crouton, Mela and Pepperplate.
– Ingredient sections are now supported from a lot of websites.
– You can import unlimited recipes, and Pestle will upload when you have Pestle Pro (if above the free limit)
– Deleting your account now requires additional confirmation
– If an active filter means no recipes are visible, Pestle will let you reset your filter quickly.
– Minicook is now enabled by default and acts like a global toggle.
– Recipe scaling has been upgraded! You can now tap the servings label to scale to an exact amount, see the relative scale for recipes without a scale, and lock in a scale. And now units will automatically convert if they’re above a threshold, for example “3 tsp” will because “1 tbsp”.
– You can now get to timers from the recipe viewer page by tapping the … button.
Fixes:
– A crash could occur if you deleted the last category/cuisine in a list
– The Discover page’s Pestle Pro warning could double up.
– Moving steps between sections could result in unpredictable behaviour.
– Some search results could be included when they shouldn’t be.
– The Meal Plan widget wouldn’t reload quickly enough.
– The Shopping List quick launch action wouldn’t work.
– Recipes from ATK could have incorrect quantities
– Recipe deletion could fail in some cases
– PDF importing wouldn’t work if initiated out of app
– Pestle could crash if you tried to share a recipe on iPad.
– Deleted categories could come back.
