Don’t bother - it doesn’t work

This app works ok… we use it to access payroll and such, since I work for a GE owned company.

I found out this app is no longer in use from calling support. Not sure why the SmartHQ app told me to download this GE Appliances Connect app in order to use the remote features of my new oven, but here we are. If anyone is having a similar issue (getting a “forbidden” error when trying to create an account in this app), it is simply because this app is no longer available or supported.If you need to turn on your Remote to your Smart Oven, I got these steps from GE Support.Go to Settings on your oven > #2 WiFi > #1 Remote Enable (should now show it is “ON”). And that should be it!

The harvesting of data from my usage of the *very expensive* refrigerator I bought is of far more value to GE/Haier than whatever small features WiFi might unlock for me. But the app makes it impossible to create a profile in order to link the refrigerator. Therefore, GE/Haier is shooting itself in the foot. If I take the windows of the app at face value, the password needs to be *exactly* 8 characters. This is miles away from best security practices. I spent several minutes using a password generator to create something long and unique before I realized the 8-character limit warning was displayed. No company limits passwords to 8 characters in 2024–except GE/Haier. I’m not going to waste any more time on this since I can’t imagine there is substantial benefit to the appliance owner in using the app. But it gives me some dread about this purchase if this is representative of GE/Haier’s attention to detail.
