Michigan DNR Hunt Fish is an official application of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Michigan DNR Hunt Fish is a way for Michigan’s hunters, anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts to purchase and view licenses, review licensing information, review regulation information, view DNR communications and complete harvest reports through your mobile device.
Features include:
Easy Account Access - create an account or sync with your current account(s) in the Michigan DNR eLicense System.
Convenient Purchasing - purchase hunting and fishing licenses, permits, duck stamps, endorsements, and DNR trail permits.
Viewing Purchase History - view current and past licenses and permits.
Reporting a Harvest - report your harvest right from your mobile device.
Maps - find information on and get directions to Michigan state forest campgrounds, state parks, boat ramps, and shooting ranges.
Resources - download and view the latest hunting and fishing digests, weekly fishing report, information on seasons and dates, and other popular resources for outdoor enthusiasts.
Weather - before heading out on the water or in the field, view the current weather conditions and sunrise/sunset times.
The application requires internet access through Wi-Fi or a cellular wireless connection to access features like purchasing and harvest reporting, viewing preference point and chance totals, drawing results, educational safety certificates, and enrolling in Auto-Renewal.
Please consider adding additional layers to the map tab, particularly GEMS information. Trying to use the website in the rural areas of most UP GEMS is difficult at best. Add the GEMS to the map function in the app May allow us to cache the individual GEMS so we can find parking areas or see the trails without trying to use the website map.

Works well, falls short

The app works well only if you have good internet access. Standing alongside a trout stream trying decipher the rules with no internet service is impossible. If you are in an unfamiliar area you can’t view the maps and even with internet there’s no way to view the maps and go back to the guidebook without exiting pages and reloading it. You have to remember colors and try to relocate where you were in a 73 page pdf. Don’t get me started on restricted gear and how confusing that is. Just put the maps in the guidebook and make it all downloadable so you don’t have to have internet access to read the stuff.

Not dependable anymore…..

I have/had it all setup to receive notifications when permits are available as I have in the past several years and it always worked, now this year; 2025; for some reason the app did not send out notifications. I missed my 2025 spring turkey permit purchase. There was an update that more than likely messed it up and removed my notifications setup. Not happy about this, will no longer depend on this app for notifications, too bad as it used to work really well….This figures, all other comments highly recommend this app, so they receive a response. I mention the problems I’m having with the app and NO response….what does that say for the developers?
Developer Response
I apologize for the timeliness of this response. We have investigated why the notifications did not go out as planned and have since corrected the issue. The human error was on the DNR side, nothing you or the app did was wrong.
Highly Useful!

This app makes so many processes so easy. I love all of the regulations and info in an easy to access place, as well as the licenses themselves. The Certificate Help link in the app was very convenient to request help to recover all copies of certificates lost in a fire. A big thanks to the application developers and the team that tracks down old safety certificates for making the process as easy as possible.
