Trying to be a bit more nuanced here since I’m a bowler that also works in software/games QA. First off, what it does right it does incredibly well. The stat tracking is superb, the instructional material is great, the ability to compare myself against other local bowlers is fun, and importing your scores couldn’t be any easier. However, I have ran into a few unfortunate bugs with the UI that would require a full restart to fix, and it does like to inexplicably log you out from time to time (which is admittedly more of a minor nuisance at best). These issues have happened less with recent updates but I still see them every once in a while. Could also because I’m a weirdo that’ll bowl ten games a session and then forget to upload them so I’m adding like 40 games at a time, so most folks might not run into this if you’re just a league bowler tracking your progress. Either way though, definitely the best thing on the market in terms of what it does. Super recommend.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and well-balanced review, that’s incredibly valuable to us. We’re really glad to hear that the core tracking, comparisons, and instructional content are hitting the mark. The UI issues you describe aren’t expected behavior, and we appreciate you calling them out so clearly, feedback like this helps us prioritize and reproduce them faster. If you’re willing, we’d love it if you could reach out to support@lanetalk.com with a bit more detail (or even a screen recording when it happens). That would go a long way in helping us dig deeper and improve the experience. Thanks again for the recommendation and for pushing us to make LaneTalk even better.
Burning the money tree
Ernest keeping it real
Do you wanna know how you ruin a great app and throw away some money? Follow these guys cause they’re doing it well. I love most of this apps features is the reason I paid for the best subscription. This whole year has been great. Then I started to notice the last few months lot of people aren’t on it any more. Come to find out they have taken away about everything there is for the free service. They wanna make more money and get it but you gotta give them something that will get people a reason to use it. Then I find out tonight that the bowling alleys are supposed to pay them a monthly fee to be a part of it. I believe it should be the other way around. what incentive does the bowling alley have for paying Lanetalk for the service? I see a bunch of incentive for lane talk to pay the bowling alleys. If I was the bowling alley, I wouldn’t give a single red scent to lane talk. I’ve been trying to decide if I was going to let them charge me for another year subscription but Im thinking that no I’m not going to. good luck lane talk your going to need it the way you have been going. I have to redact a portion of my review. It was brought to my attention that lane talk does not charge the bowling center a fee. It’s the programmer that charges them. My mistake I apologize. Although I still stand by my opinion that Lanetalk has raped the free version of the app and it is a fact that there has been a substantial amount of people that are no longer appearing on the rankings lists. Which in turn takes a lot away from the app’s appeal. I might renew my subscription later but for now I’m not feeling all that interested being on it by myself. Which is the way it has felt lately.

Hi Ernest, thank you very much for your feedback. We currently receive more than 1 million games every day so it's costly to continue to host and develop the app. We are not charging any center to use our services. It's provided for free to everyone. However, there are one scoring system that continue to charge a monthly fee to their customers to send the scoring data to LaneTalk. We don't get a penny of that.We have an increasing number of paying subscribers that enjoy the app. If you have ideas on how we can improve, please let us know, support@lanetalk.com, thanks!
Should be better for the price

This is by far the nicest looking bowling app I’ve used. I live in a city that doesn’t have any automatic scoring centers in it so I have to keep my score manually. This is where the fatal flaw of this app lies which I discovered while keeping my league scores tonight. I kept track of every frame in real time and when I reached the end of each game I hit Save. You’d think if you hit Save then that score would be logged and become part of your average calculation. However, this app doesn’t add your games to your average until you’re done recording whole block. Somehow, after my three league games were recorded, I accidentally started a new game. When I backed out of this game (because I was done bowling) it erased all of my scores. Consequently, I lost all my data for the night. This app needs to redo the interface so that when you press save at the end of a game, it is truly saved. It also needs a way to cancel out of a game that is started in error without affecting other scores. Until they fix these features, I will use the other bowling app that is only a $9 one-time charge. Even thought is not as pretty, it gives you most of the same data and saves the games as you input them.

Thanks for the detailed feedback — we really appreciate you taking the time to explain this. We understand how frustrating it must be to lose your scores, especially after entering them frame by frame. That’s definitely not the intended experience. We’ve shared your feedback around saving behavior and game handling with our product team.
Great app but now you have to pay for everything

When the app first released, it was great. I was able to track every game every time then when my bowling center decided to get new equipment the app would blunt find my center to log anything automatically. I quit using it for a while because I didn’t feel like logging my games frame by frame manually. But they finally got it working with my center again and I was excited except it came with a few changes. Now you had to get a pro membership to be able to add your balls into your arsenal and see more than the last two weeks of games. I was ok with that as I only wanted to see a recap of the current week and the previous week to compare and didn’t care about what ball I used because I only ever really need to use only one ball. But now I can’t even find my current weeks game recap without signing up for a pro membership. There isn’t anything you can do without having to pay for a subscription in the app. This is a money grab and will only drive users away. I won’t be using this app anymore until it goes back to the free members being able to at least see the current weeks recap and maybe the previous week. I really liked the app but now it is useless without paying a fee.

Thanks for sharing this detailed feedback — we truly appreciate it. We understand how frustrating it is to lose features you’ve relied on. LaneTalk offered real-time tracking, game history, and stats for free for many years, and we tried to continue doing so for as long as possible. However, running these features at scale is very costly. To keep the platform alive and improving, we needed to move personal game tracking and history into the Pro plan, so that the bowlers who value these tools most can help keep them available. Following live scoring and other bowlers in participating centers remains part of the Free experience. We know this is a big shift, and it wasn’t a decision we took lightly — but it was necessary to ensure LaneTalk can remain sustainable long-term. We’re grateful you’ve used the app for so long, and we hope you’ll consider returning in the future as we continue to improve the experience.
