The new Rinnai app is not an enhancement over the previous version. Even a slight step backward. Appearance is a modest improvement. But, the Recirculate function is less reliable than previously. And since we don’t use preset schedules, the manual recirculate function is our house’s primary use of our Rinnai water heater and the app. Response to the Recirculate function varies. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t respond at all, and sometimes it seems like it doesn’t turn off when the selected time is up. Also, the remaining recirculation time no longer shows. That was a helpful feature. The Refresh Status function (still) doesn’t do anything. And , why do I need to confirm that I want to refresh right after I just hit the button to refresh? It’s just an extra step, then the “refresh” quickly returns no new data. Looking forward to the next version.

UPDATE: The recirculation feature has been fixed in Version 3.0.6. PREVIOUS: Thank you for your feedback. We are aware of the recirculation bug, and we are testing the fix for this at this time. We also are making changes to the Status Page so that it will refresh automatically. The "refresh" button is a signal to the water heater to send the most current data, which takes some time to refresh, and our next version will automate this when you open the application to reduce the time to get recent information. Thank you, and we will update this comment when we release the new version to see if we addressed many of your concerns.

Rinnai has been jerking their customers around for YEARS with USELESS apps that they put out to control the tankless water heaters. The apps do not work properly. They have never worked properly, regardless of how many updates have been implemented. Rinnai either does not care at all about their customers’ feedback and extreme dissatisfaction, OR they do care but are completely incompetent and hire completely incompetent people in their tech department to fix the problems. How hard can it possibly be to make an app communicate with the water heater to activate recirculation properly, efficiently and reliably?????!!!!!????? People have been complaining about this in the app reviews and over the phone with Rinnai for YEARS, and they STILL have not figured it out. Every time I myself have personally called in to talk to someone at Rinnai, all I get is “it will be fixed with the next update”. I think it is time to report this company to the Better Business Bureau. People buying an expensive Rinnai tankless water heater with a recirculation pump do so in order to save water and money. Rinnai’s apps make it IMPOSSIBLE to do this. They have spent years trying to figure this out, but have been unsuccessful. They make promises to get you to buy their product, and then DO NOT deliver. They are wasting their customers time and money, and all we get when we finally do reach someone in Customer Service at Rinnai are EXCUSES.

This might be the absolute worst app I’ve ever installed on any mobile phone or computer computer and I’ve been using computer since the 1970s and smartphones since they were shipping with Palm OS. The circle to choose the temperature of the water heater is miserable, with at least 50% of the time it failing to set the temperature at your desired level. You also can’t change the temperature when it’s in USE so if one person gets in a shower and the next person wants hotter water they can’t until the first person turns off the water. Is their equipment that primitive that it can’t change the temperature while it’s heating water? They need to hire someone older than 10 to write their app and they need to hire people who aren’t single and living alone to design the interface with the water heater. Until then, I would give this app -1 stars if I could and if I were the CEO I would fire everyone involved with the app and the product and hire all new people and start over. You’ll notice they also don’t reply to comments here and the only way to get support is by email. Such an unprofessional company that I wish I knew before I spent too much money on their water heater. Buy someone else’s water heater.
Rinnai Central app serious password entry problem

My review is for Rinnai Central version 4.2.0 (5): Mainly the app lacks robust user interface input validation to warn you of inputs that are invalid.1) There's a serious problem with password entry for making a connection to a customer's Router Access Point. That is, the iPhone app will silently accept and truncate a password longer than the the length it will internally send when attempting access to your router's access point. From my experience, that truncation point is at least equal to or greater than 10 characters, but smaller than 26 characters. Through online chat with Rinnai support, I have advised the support staff there, Nicholas, of this problem which caused me days of delay and hours of personal time to get my RWM200 Wifi module connected to my Wifi access point. That's not to speak of the Rinnai support time wasted and unnecessary cost of replacement of my new RWM200 Wifi module. 2) Rinnai support advised that the app will allow you to specify any start time for scheduled recirculation tasks, but they will only work if your start time is on as 15 minute interval; 8:15,8:30, etc., not 8:05. Again an entrapment in the UI. 3) The "Recirculation Disabled" status item under the app should more appropriately be shown as "Recirculation In Use" or "Recirculation Inactive." It doesn't reflect whether you have enabled or disabled recirculation. I don't know if you can even use the app to disable recirculation.
