I’ve been making recipes from The Guardian for years (especially those by Meera Sodha) and I’m really excited about this new app! I immediately came here to write a review when I saw the account > settings > toggle on/off option to “hide meat-based recipes on your homepage.” Thank you so much for recognizing that this could make or break a user’s experience with the app. I am thrilled that I can open the app without dreading what I might see!

Six month free trial for Guardian subscribers. The filters allow specifying gluten and dairy free recipes and when both were set about half of the recipes were still available. The recipes themselves look good and the layout is nice and clear. I also liked the UK to US translation popup that explains the different names for some ingredients. The free recipe app I was using before is getting more and more adverts so I’m going to delete it and switch to this.

I love the recipes, by many of my favorite chefs. The only problem is that all the measurements are suited to UK users. 250g of eggs? How many is that, and what size? 10g of bicarbonate of soda? 275 g of oil for a cake? I tried my best to convert everything but even so. And yes, I used your conversion page, but it’s difficult, incomplete, and I think it’s inaccurate. Especially for baking, the amounts are off, resulting in less than terrific cakes. Several simply haven’t baked at all in the center. Any chance you could tweak the app so users could choose the appropriate measurements - UK or US?

A little difficult for old eyes

The app is a welcome addition for anyone interested in British recipes. One unfortunate aspect is how the app does not allow recipes to fit your screen, so the writing is too small to read. I’m using an a iPad Pro in landscape mode, and text is too small to be easily legible. Printing a recipe is not possible from the app, either. (Who wants to bring expensive electronic equipment into the kitchen where accidents can and do happen. Hopefully the Guardian will fix this poor engineering in an update, otherwise, I’ll eschew the app for the Guardian’s webpage.

The 'More' icon is represented by three squares in a horizontal line. It's possible to increase the font size in your iPad's accessibility settings. - We've made improvements to recipe sharing and deep linking.
- You can now create your own shopping list. Browse the app for recipes and add the ingredients as you go.
- Recipes are now printable. Open a recipe and tap the three dot menu.
