As a relatively longtime follower of Ali Abdaal, I’m not shocked to learn that this app is actually helpful and productive—but given that this is a new app with a pretty complex aim, I am admittedly surprised that it works as smoothly and as effectively as Ali claims it does in his videos. I’m a Black woman journalist running an independent newsletter and media brand from home, and don’t have a newsroom or team of colleagues to bounce ideas off of, so Voice Pal actually provided that’s space for me by helping me iterate and develop my ideas and thoughts with thoughtful, constructive questions. Congrats on an awesome app!

I should be using Voicepal to write this review. The first time I’ve used it, it’s already taken my stream of consciousness thoughts and turned it into an insightful, concise discussion with an eye catching title. I love the thoughtful prompts and that I’m able to just talk. Usually, I’d have to transcribe my own voice recordings and then clean it up. Voicepal saves me so much time and the end result actually sounds like me, not some generic summary from other voices on the Internet. There’s no limit on using this app for your personal and/or professional life.

I’ve been wanting to journal for so long now but am so lazy typing my thoughts and everything else! This app is apparently not just for iOS but for iPad and for MacOS too (which is amazing cause I can use it at work!!!) I love it so much especially for the prompting and the follow up questions the AI is asking you. It’s good for reflections and just wanting to journal but without the typing part, you get a transcript of the voice journaling you did at the end too! love love love it!

I turn on and off the subscription. I turn it on because even being a well connected tech person this experience is missing and needed. But then I turn it off because it can be so much more well done. Invest in real user studies asking them what they are missing or what and add those features. For example the questions it asks can go a direction and there is no easy way to get out of it. I wish I could prompt the questions to go a different direction or refresh questions.
