Better than iFit

BitGym is awesome. Easy to setup, easy to use, syncs data with Apple Health, and works with all exercise equipment. Those four things are not true for iFit Wi-Fi module.
BitGym (i'm using free account thus far) remembers your progress on the circuit. So although I'm only getting a quick ten minute run each morning I'm still getting through entire circuits (tours). HD video can stream or be downloaded for offline use. I use AirPlay to display to TV on wall in front of the treadmill. Looks great. Smooth HD video in BitGym is extremely superior to choppy Google Street View used by iFit.
BitGym estimates calories based on my personal stats (age, gender, weight, height) and steps per minute (how fast I was running).
BitGym gives a lot of value for free, but you are limited to 10 minute at a time. You can do multiples per day (one after the other) and they all sync to Apple Health, so not a show stopper.
Downloading the HD video for offline use seems to take a long time but that depends on the tour size (these files can bee in the GB range). The one download lasts me several days of ten minute runs, and is better quality then streaming the video on my network.

One of the coolest apps for working out!

I was tired of exercising with just music or a tv show, so I started googling apps and this one popped up. I was a little leery at first since there were hardly any reviews, but I gave the free option a try and quickly switched to the subscription. $8 a month seems like a lot, but if you use it several times a week, it's worth it. The graphics are incredible! I have a standard iPad Air that I use. The camera on the iPad watches your movements to know how fast or slow you are going. The calorie counter is pretty close to the bike monitor as well. But again, those graphics! It's almost like if you went on a run with a camera on your head. I've ridden my stationary bike through Costa Rica and Maui, and I've gone on the elliptical through Venezuela! Purchasing the subscription is definitely not necessary, but you get so many more locations! I also love the ambient sounds of the birds, camels, waves and wind, and I also really like that they give you little factoids throughout your run about the location you're in! I can't say enough about how great this app is!

It’s almost like I’m really there...

I’ve been using BitGym for almost 3 years now and could not be any more enthusiastic about it. I bought a treadmill that was iFit enabled and that software was a disaster, IMO. So I went looking for a similar, video guide of runs and landed on BitGym.

The pros: seriously immersive experience. The video quality is fantastic and the routes are gorgeous. I’ve hiked several of the trails irl and it truly brings me back like I’m actually running on thru the forest, along the beach, or in the heart of the city. The interesting facts that pop up are easily enough ignored, but I like them as a way to refocus my mind and learn something new.

The cons: it doesn’t sync with my treadmill to automatically raise/lower the incline. Occasionally the app crashes mid-run, though this occurred more often the first year or two I was using it and less often now.

Wishlist: for someone to upload marathon and half marathon routes from beginning to end. Not during the actual race, but the route so that I could experience what running the route would actually be like. More trails. Now that users can upload high quality video, I hope to see something like that in a future release. It would also be fantastic to know what cities/trails/hikes are on queue or on a list for eventually, if it gets some users to help out.

In all, a 5* app that has been my go-to when I’m training indoors and keeps getting better with time. Definitely a satisfied user!
