Your iPhone has an excellent camera and the picture wizards at Chroma Noir want to help photographers make the most of it. Hey presto: Halide Camera! It’s designed around two principles: the kind of granular settings you’d expect from a professional DSLR; and a slick, one-handed interface that complements today’s devices.

I’m so rarely impressed

I’m a photographer, and recently lost all of my equipment, and am struggling to save enough money to first replace my camera, before everything else. A very good friend recently got hired to model for a brand name underwear company, and asked me to do the first photoshoot. After explaining my lack of equipment situation, he said he’s heard of iPhone photoshoots, because the iPhone X series have such a great cameras, and that we could try doing that. Now don’t get me wrong, the iPhone has a tremendous cellphone camera, but... it’s a cellphone camera. I wasn’t very hopeful, but he’s a friend, and so I agreed. I tried many apps leading up to the shoot, and they were an improvement, but I remained doubtful about the shoot coming up, until I downloaded this app. We did an outdoors natural light shoot, late afternoon, and the photos turned out amazing. I have never been so impressed with an app, let alone a photography app, in my life as I have been with Halide. It produces truly “lossless” raw images. I love it so much that I only use this app now when taking pictures with my phone, even when taking a quick pic of an empty toilet paper roll to send to my roommate with a “thanks @$$h0/£” message attached. I am still without lighting equipment, backgrounds, and things like that so I am not actively seeking clients, but two people have scheduled shoots after seeing my friends photos. Thank you to everyone at Halide who helped create this amazing app.

XR Camera Dream Come True

I’m a designer and DSLR photographer, so the camera features on my phone is a big deal to me. When I upgraded from a 6, I was torn between the XS and XR. I’d been gravitating toward the XR due to the colors, battery life, price, and better lowlight photos, but was devastated it only had portrait mode for people. I heard about Halide finding a solution to this problem, so I went with the XR and bought this app. I took a photo of my dog and I’m in love with its ability to pretty accurately map out data for bokeh shots. My photo went straight to the default apple photos app, and reads it as a portrait photo now so I can adjust the blur like I can on people portraits. The only setback is not seeing bokeh in live mode, but it’s no biggie and who knows what exciting features future updates will bring.

Thank you Ben & Sebastiaan for using your intelligence, skills, and talent to make a camera like this for the iPhone XR. Buying this app finally made me 100% happy with my decision to get the phone I did.
