DentalMonitoring is designed to help dental professionals monitor the evolution of their patients’ orthodontic treatments remotely, between in-practice appointments. It can only be used under the supervision of a clinician, who provides patients with their personal login information. The DentalMonitoring app is intended to be used with the patented DM ScanBox and DM Cheek Retractor, to maximize the quality of each intraoral picture taken with patients’ smartphones. If you’re a patient, the app provides: • Ease of use: No technical expertise is needed to use DentalMonitoring. When I got my Invisline my first scan was SUPER late but eventually I got the hang of remembering the date of my next scan. Now I have been doing well on my teeth progress, and badge progress as well. I enjoy the satisfying feeling of getting a badge for taking good care of my teeth. I have a small story about this app that I'd like to share. I was freaking out because the start scan wasn't appearing and I looked at my calendar to see if the date was right, then I looked at my Alexa and I saw the date and I realized that I crossed off an extra day. So my scan was on the next day 😂 I know this is probably not as long as the other reviews but I hope this was a good read! : )

Slow like 1980s uploads, datasharing glitches

After 12 hours of trying to get a scan to upload with zero success (troubleshooting attempts like cancelling scans, trying again with new scans x3, closing app and reopening, shutting off phone and restarting, checking OS was updated, checking with provider to get new email link to uninstall and reinstall app etc) I was at my wits end.My work requires lock screen to go into efect after 3 minutes, and app if goes into lock screen interrupts the upload. The upload was taking hours!!!! Each segment was often getting part way through and then restarting on its progress bar even when app wasn’t closed or going to lock screen. I have high speed satellite wifi, that was working uninterrupted for other people in the family while this was going on. Finally got a scan to go through by turning off my wifi and using cellular data only. This app developer must not have worked through some sort of permission or datatsharing protocol that would need to be compatible with my wifi. I have NEVER had an issue with any other app not being compatible with my wifi and find it ridiculous that these uploads will require my cellular data only to function (and that it took me stumbling into that solution on my own to figure out to make this work for my provider).

Incredibly annoying

This app is super frustrating. You HAVE to have notifications enabled otherwise it requires you to pretend you are enabling them each time and forces you to go into your settings. You cannot proceed with a scan with out this. (I have to use an old phone to scan because the scanner doesn’t fit over my phone case - and I have notifications set up on my actual phone - but don’t need notifications on BOTH phones.) You also can only scan when it allows. And if anything is off, even in the slightest, with your aligners, you get a condescending AI message and a “no go” for moving to the next aligners. And then random scan notifications there after with more condescending messages. Also has lots of pop ups of “badge” notifications and “share with friends.” Pretty ridiculous for adults using this or for children that don’t have phones/social media - not that ortho treatment should be shared with the world anyways. The badges may only be “cute” for pre teen kids but even then, they are highly annoying and unnecessary. I highly regret signing up for Invisalign and more specifically with my orthodontist that requires the use of this app. I wish I could give it zero stars.

I’ve been using the scan box with the app for a few months now, for Invisalign, and I do think it’s a cool app. I like how my orthodontist can see my scans and send me messages and vice versa, and the app is pretty user friendly.The one thing I will say, is that it’s a little redundant, the order in which you need to take the pictures. First you need to take your aligners out and take a bunch of scans with them out. AFTER that, you put your aligners back in and scan with that. Usually for me, I do my scans first thing in the morning, so my aligners have been on all night and are at their best fit. I almost always get pushed back for a couple of days because I have to take them out and put them back in. Usually I have better results if I chew on a chewy for 5ish minutes (like we’re supposed to anyways) but the order that the scans are done in just end up wasting a lot of time.

Use Statement
DentalMonitoring is a medical device software using image processing algorithms to analyze pictures of the oral cavity (hereinafter Scans). Scans are taken using the DM App and a smartphone, and the manufacturer’s proprietary hardware products. Scans are taken by the patient, a non-healthcare professional, or a Healthcare Professional. The Scan is taken in healthcare facilities, such as a dental practice, or in a non-healthcare environment, such as the patient’s own home. For some Clinical Parameters, DentalMonitoring requires a 3D Model. The product is designed to assist Healthcare Professionals in remotely monitoring dental treatments, orthodontic treatments, oral health, and treatment progress. The results of DentalMonitoring are intended to be used as an aid in diagnosis and not on a stand-alone basis for clinical decision-making. DentalMonitoring is indicated for use for patients over the age of 6 and reports results solely on permanent teeth.

Safety Information
CONTRAINDICATIONS - DentalMonitoring should not be used on patients under the age of 6. DentalMonitoring should not be used by patients presenting systemic conditions affecting connective tissues not allowing them to open/close their buccal cavity sufficiently to acquire acceptable Scans.
LIMITATIONS - DentalMonitoring is indicated for use for patients over the age of 6 and reports results solely on permanent teeth.
WARNINGS, PRECAUTIONS, NOTICES - The following population should be assisted by a third party to perform Scans:

children up to 12;
adults or children visually impaired;
adults or children hearing impaired;
or any condition that might prevent the patient from adopting the right position to take a Scan.
DentalMonitoring is not intended to replace standard practices for diagnosis or treatment. Final clinical decisions remain the sole responsibility of the Healthcare Professional. In order to establish a diagnosis, further examinations are required according to the current standard of care, such as dental radiographs and/or tactile examinations with instrumentation. In the event of pain, discomfort, or any other symptom during treatment, you should refer to your Healthcare Professional since the latter has the ultimate responsibility for making medical decisions. DentalMonitoring results are limited only to elements visible in the input Scans. DentalMonitoring does not provide results on non-visible elements. DentalMonitoring does not provide results on lingual surfaces. Some Scans may be rejected if they cannot be processed by DentalMonitoring. In such cases, you will be informed of the reason for the rejection and given advice on how to take acceptable Scans. Please see Why was my Scan rejected? for a list of reasons your Scan may be rejected.
