So close to being my choice Subsonic client but one key feature lacking
senatorface
Love this player for Subsonic, I’ve tried pretty much all of them at this point. However I have to choose an alternative for one main reason: the inability to select multiple music folders as the source for music. By folders I don’t mean folders on the drive (love the actual folder browsing capability it has), but what this app refers to as “Media Filters” (top middle of the app) which are the groupings you have setup in your Subsonic server. In other clients that have this ability you can select multiple of them. I have groupings like Lossy > Bootlegs, Lossy > Studio, Lossless > Studio, Lossy > Unreleased. This kind of setup is awesome because for example a lot of time I will want not want all the bootlegs cluttering up my albums list, or maybe I want to rule out low quality unreleased tracks but still listen to both Lossless and Lossy studio albums. This is very easy and nice when you can select multiple of them but for some reason it seems like you can only select one at a time in this app, making it impossible to get the selection of source groupings I need. Otherwise a great app, maybe not the cleanest UI compared to others but it has so many cool things like the visualizer and granular transcoding settings. Great app, so if the filters thing isn’t an issue for you l, give it a try.

Update: Multiple media folders may now be filtered simultaneously.Thank you for this review, and for trying play:Sub.I'm glad the visualizer, the transcoding settings and folder browsing are working well for you. You're right about Media Filters. Being able to pick only one Media Folder at a time gets in the way of a setup like yours. Your description of your groupings made the use case very clear.Good news: selecting any combination of Media Folders in the Media Filter is coming in an update later this year. Thanks again, and happy listening!Michael
Love the app, but...

Been using Play:Sub forever. I love the app, but I think the most recent update messed something up. In Folder view, whenever I click on an album, it doesn’t always load the list of songs. I have to click the back arrow to go back to the list of artists and click the artist again to go back to their albums only to list the next albums songs. I have to go through this whole process just to see the next albums songs. Also, on occasion - some of the albums at the bottom of the list don’t show up. Just blank lines. This happens in both online and offline mode and just started happening this past week. No error dialogs appear. Would love resolution on this because I don’t want to change to iSub.

Please try the latest version - this should be fixed now.If it still doesn't work for you, please get in touch so we can figure out what's up.Thanks.
Love this, but one feature suggestion
Theno1patrick
I use this with my booksonic server connected to unraid and it works beautifully. However, there’s 1 feature I would love to see you implement (btw, I’ve downloaded every subsonic music/audiobook player and none have it) is being able to play back at faster speeds. I have some audiobooks which are great, but the narrator speaks at terribly slow pace. Hopefully you can implement this feature relatively easily and soon! Otherwise, love the app and features! -update: and this was improved! We have faster playback, integration into every Bluetooth/wireless device I have. I’ve deleted all my other apps and use this one exclusively. Works with my audiobooks, podcasts and on a separate server I’ve linked my music. Overall, this is a total win!

Hi,Variable playback speed will be part of the next version.Cheers,Michael.
Excellent app - perfect gapless playback
Gonzo Q. Tortilla
Most important: gapless playback works flawlessly. If (like for me) this is a critical requirement for you, then this program is what you need. No microgaps, just seamless playback from track to track. The program has very nice features for server connections including letting you choose to accept self-signed certificates and letting you use a server with http Basic Auth. It's easy to configure multiple servers and switch between them. Clearly the developers have put a lot of thought into makeing the app as widely useful as possible. Oh, and it works well with Apple Car Play taboot. The user interface seems great to me. I do wish that after briging up the list of genres, selecting a genre brought up a list of album-artists rather than albums, but that's just a small quibble.I'm connecting to navidrome servers, and I've noticed some problem with flakey behavior when first visiting a new server, but it was not reproducible and never appeared after the first visit. Perhaps the problem was at my end.Overall my experience with the app is off-scale good. The perfect way to access my home music collection when on the road.
AUTO SYNC, iPHONE DUO, WHAT'S NEW
AUTO SYNC
Keep the music you care about on your device, automatically. Auto Sync downloads or caches your starred songs, albums or artists, your newest albums, or any of your playlists - and keeps up as they change.
Give each one a mode: Download keeps the music on your device until you remove it; Cache fetches it too, but lets it make room for other music.
Auto Sync is off until you turn it on. Find it on the play:Sub tab, where Sync Now starts a run straight away.
iPHONE DUO
Folded, unfolded or side by side in two-up multitasking, play:Sub is up for it.
WHAT'S NEW
The play:Sub tab now tells you what is new since the version you last used, with a badge until you have had a look.
AND THE REST
● New: The Audio Visualizer can have a tab of its own. Add it in the Tab Bar settings.
● Fixed: Background downloads are more reliable.
● Various other bugfixes and improvements.
