I’ve been using this app for a couple months and it’s very useful. I like having an inventory of what’s in my kitchen so I can “check my cupboards” when I’m at the grocery store! The shopping list is also really useful because when you mark that you’ve used an item it can be automatically added to your list. I also like that you can include expiration dates for items, you can add items quickly with the barcode scanner, and you can mark if you have an item but you’re running out soon. A couple things that could be improved- if you have multiple shopping lists (like for different stores) the auto add feature seems to just pick one at random and it’s difficult to move items between lists. I also wish you could edit the shopping list while doing the “shopping” feature like when you decide to get only 2 bananas instead of the 3 on your list. Sometimes the app is buggy but their customer support is great! I’ve gotten quick and efficient responses when I had issues with it crashing and it’s been working really well since then. Would definitely recommend!

This app is excellent for managing my kitchen inventory, which was out of control before I downloaded this app. Now I can easily see what I need and don’t. I love the concept of the recipe match up, but it honestly needs further development before I can really rely on it. It often takes me to meal suggestions that don’t make sense once I review the ingredients, as it relies heavily on how the inventory is categorized and there are a lot of errors here still, for example categorizing “Beef Tallow”, a fat, as ground beef, or Diaya Mac and Cheese as cheese. It also substitutes ingredients that don’t need substituted because I have the actual ingredient, which seems odd to me. These are minor and I’m sure will be addressed with time, but if I could rely on the recipes more, I would use this app a lot more and give it all 5 stars. To me that’s the most unique thing this app has going for it and the thing with the best potential to pull everything together into an app I can’t live without. Mostly right now I export my inventory to a pdf, feed it to Gemini and ask it what I should make and it gives me 3 good recipes I can immediately work with, along with a shopping list for what I don’t have, and or feasible substitutions for what I have that might work.

Overall I am satisfied with KitchenPal. It offers an intuitive UI that’s quick and easy to use. Plenty of filters to show what’s in your pantry. Removing an item will automatically add it to your shopping list, one of my favorite features. Cross-platform let’s my wife and I manage our kitchen and stock. Best of all the app is semi-regularly updated and offers affordable upgrade prices.A few suggestions I would like to add to the developer: * Add in iOS Shortcuts scripting. On iOS we can add automation steps using our Shortcuts app. For example a feature to quickly add in a product without having to open the app would be great. Or to retrieve products expiring this week so that I can add those products into an external to-do app (I use Things 3 to manage tasks so having an automation in place to add a task like “Throw out apples” would be awesome!). * Widgets to display stock levels. Having a widget on my phone would let me quickly see what’s expiring or low-stock. * Favorite items. Marking an item as a favorite and then having a view to see the stock levels of favorited items would be helpful. * Having a task to review expiring inventory. Perhaps a push notification to remind me it’s time to review/throw our expiring items.These additional features could also be a paid subscription service. To automate some of my tasks, I would pay ~5-10 bucks a month so adding in these features could also increase revenue.

Overall, I would say that the app is a little bit slow, but I know it’s searching a whole database full of different foods. I really like that I can switch to storage for you so I can know that I have pantry items or fridge items. The fridge items are the ones that go off quite quickly. I would like to be able to enter the actual expiration date instead of saying six months one month a year. In one case I had to add an item. It was a store brand dressing and it expires in less than a year but over nine months so I chose nine months just to tell me. I sort of want notifications of expiring through this, but on the other hand, I don’t know how diligent I will be even entering that information. I went through a few applications, and I think this one is the one that’s going to stick. I hope it’s quite the feet to go through my entire pantry and scan everything but at least we can scan, that is a huge bonus.
