Not a first time speedy onboarding
Hey FuelPay Product team,
First off the proposition for being able to pay for my fuel while staying in the car in a couple of clicks is awesome.
I do wonder though how well your customer activation is going?
My wife and I picked up our new car this weekend and saw the FuelPay 6cent promotion posters and fuel pump banners at Caltex Bondi promoting the app. As we are both in the tech industry and early adopters we thought hey why not.
Thankfully it was Sunday evening and quiet as the onboarding experience to download the app, verify email and mobile, register credit card and complete signup took over 5 minutes. It’s not something I can imagine a lot of drivers in a rush with others behind them waiting, completing. Are you seeing lots of drop out after the initial app download and startup?
Suggestions would be:
- avoid the Microsoft account web redirect to collect the initial customer info. Can you do this in the app and post it to Microsoft’s identify manager?
- credit card auto detect api to quickly snap the details or even better Apple Pay integration for quick turnaround rather than having to type in the card numbers. Oh and make it more obvious Amex is not accepted as we missed that initially and typed in our Amex only for it be rejected. Real pain.
Look forward to seeing how this evolves and if anymore offers like fuel or shop discounts or 3rd party discounts and recommendations come onboard.
App needs more work
I think the FuelPay® Caltex Australia App is a great concept, just needs a bit more work to ensure it works smoothly. Would be able to use fill tank up with kids in the car and not having to leave the car to pay with the bonus of saving 6 cents per litre.
I’ve used the App once before after a very lengthy process to set up an account and verify etc. Eventually worked.
Pulled into local Caltex to see if set up was a once off time consuming task. Filled tank up and was unable to confirm pump number. I tried multiple times, closed the App and tried again and again.
Ended up having to go into the store to pay at the counter and missed out on saving any cents 😔 Thankfully I didn’t have the kids in the car.
Great idea but needs to tweaking!
I tried using Fuelpay at Cobar but the payment wouldn’t process, so I closed the app and paid by card. I’ve just received an email receipt confirming payment was successful and checked my bank account, I’ve been charged twice! Love the concept but not impressed that it didn’t work and the double payment. It was even advertised at the station as a form of payment and confirmed in the app. To their credit, the customer service team quickly fixed the issue and refunded one of the purchases. Used it successfully today in Ballarat but no more discounts. Would love to see Woolworths and Myer card integration so I can get the points!
Up to six family members will be able to use this app with Family Sharing enabled.
