FrogID is Australia’s first national citizen science frog identification initiative – a project led by the Australian Museum in partnership with Australia’s leading natural history museums and IBM.

Use the App to create a profile, record frog calls and match your calls to the frog calls on the app. Then upload your records to the Australian Museum frog experts for species verification.

With your help we can put more frog species on the map and track changes to their species and habitats over time, and therefore monitor our waterway's health.

Great start but a couple bugs

I record 60s audio and it lists some frogs. One species is found only in WA and I’m recording in NSW. As I scroll down the list, app crashes/quit - did this twice then I gave up using it. The email to verify my email address contained a link which my phone browser said could not be reached. Now just exploring the frogs - great interface... I originally submitted this to request to filter based on location - but have now found you do have a filter. Not sure why I missed it at first. UX feedback for you.

Thanks so much for your feedback. We noticed some email clients were blocking our automated verification email, so we added dedicated I.P addresses and security certificates to help improve this. Please contact us at to help with your FrogID app issues. If possible, please include your FrogID account details, device model and what software version is currently installed on it. Thank you for your time in helping us improve the free FrogID app for all users. It is greatly appreciated. Regards, Nadiah (FrogID Team)

May need a server upgrade to handle the traffic

I think this is a great project, and I look forward to participating. Looks like we might actually get some rain next week so there should be a lot of activity around the place. In preparation for the survey, I have updated the app (easy and quick) and tried to renew my password and get familiar with the app again. The last 2 steps are very slow and clunky, I even had to abandon the reset of password due to the time it was taking. I suspect this might be to do with server traffic and it would be great if this could be fixed before the survey starts or it is going to be very frustrating uploading frog calls.
Keep up the great work. It would be great to see a stats page that showed changes in frog population numbers and distribution Over time. Cheers.

great idea but...

Hi guys. Downloaded app fine. Recorded sounds fine. Press submit- goes into submitted folder but status says "not submitted" when I go into the sound byte so not sure if it sent or not.
it's been over 3 weeks since I submitted my first sounds but no verification from the museum yet. I'm sure it's just because they are busy, but I have no way of knowing. So I'm reluctant to do any more recordings.
The app crashes frequently which is disappointing.
If you apply too many filters to frogs near me, you can't listen to other frog sounds when trying to id frogs after recording. If a new frog is in your area you have no way of matching it to sounds outside your filtered frogs near me.
Great concept, I am still excited by participating in this survey but the bugs need to be fixed please. Maybe we can get the frogs to eat the bugs!
