Was in the market for a simple, clutter free workout tracker. This seemed promising. The interface is clean. Unfortunately, the developer saw fit to convert this into a subscription model. I would happily pay a one-off $5 to even $20 for a clean simple tracker like this that meets my needs. What a shame to realise to access my data I had to go on the subscription model. Very disappointing - if i wanted to pay a recurring fee i might as well go with Strong. If the developer could do a premium standalone version, this app would make everyone happy and help the developer maintain his costs too. A subscription model for simple data tracking and logging is simply greedy.
Hi! Thank you for your review. I understand that the subscription model is not popular, but unfortunately I have no other choice. I have tried the one-off pricing for many years, and it simply doesn't work. Pricing is hard, but if you would sell something and you know that for each sale you can potentially have costs for life, what price would you set? Since the start of development in 2013, I have updated the app well over 100 times and plan to continue update the app for many years to come. RepCount also has recurring costs for servers, services and infrastructure and development. Last year, the costs excluding development was well over $15 000 and this number is increasing with every active user. So this is what it would cost to just leave the app and not get paid a single cent.People also tend to think that app development is cheap, but this is far from the case. $20 would not even get me 20 minutes with a good developer. Just because an app is simple to use doesn't mean that it is easy to develop. There is a lot of work to get it to that point. On a personal note, I have essentially been working for unpaid for 7 years with this app and haven't received a paycheck from my own company yet. I have made a lot of sacrifices, both of my time and lost income, to get RepCount to the point where it is today. I am sorry you don't want to support RepCount on this journey and I hope that you find an app with a pricing model that suits your needs. In RepCount you are free to log as many workouts as you want for free, without ads. And if you want access to the premium features, I personally think the current $10 year is an absolute steal and that the competitors doesn't come close in terms of value.
