This app could have so much potential but is very buggy, I’ve been using it now since it first came out and calls constantly drop out and I’m having to recall customers multiple times, features seem to play up on it quite regularly. Service m8 is amazing, however the phone app needs much more work done to it.
This has changed the way I do business and saves me hours each month. As a solo operator that is huge!
Simple to set up and use with only the occasional drop out or bad connection (no more than I get with normal mobile service) and the ability to automate or streamline much of the booking process.
Calls are recorded so you always have a record of what was said and can come back to info you may need to check. That is invaluable when doing admin on the road and during jobs.
One feature that would be handy is the ability to add a call to an existing job instead of sending it to inbox. I often make calls to contacts not entered on the job card that I would like stored on the job anyway.
Awesome app that I recommend to anyone running a business in an area with normal mobile reception coverage.

Once you sign up for SM8 phone, tapping the client phone number always opens this app. If your service is only 3G, this doesn’t work very well. Would be much more usable if we could choose whether to call a client from SM8 Phone or using the normal phone app.
We live in a country town and more than half the time we don’t have solid data coverage.
Would also be nice if it allowed admin app users to change settings, such as switching between on-call and message bank, etc.

Being a VoIP phone system, ServiceM8 Phone does require solid internet connectivity and speed, so if you don’t get 4G coverage (or at least consistently high 3G coverage), then you won’t have the kind of bandwidth needed to use ServiceM8 Phone the way it’s designed. The good thing is that telco coverage and data speeds will keep improving in future.
Regarding managing on-call vs. voicemail settings in the app, it depends on what you’re wanting to do.
If there are times when you don’t want to be disturbed during the day, you can turn off your availability to receive external calls in the ServiceM8 Phone app (in More > Status, and there are options to stop accepting calls for a certain amount of time). If you’re the only staff member in the Business Hours Call Group, external callers will then be sent to voicemail.
If you just want to change the staff member on call after hours, you can set who is On Call at any given time via the main ServiceM8 app (in More > Staff, tap the relevant team member, then ‘Set on call’).
If you’re referring to the ability to set whether phone calls after hours go to the Staff Member On Call, or Send to Voicemail, then yes, this can only be toggled in your ServiceM8 Phone settings online — it’s not in the app because it typically doesn’t change often, but we appreciate this might not be the case for your business.
