Description

No free speech means Australia is silenced. That's why in 2023, Sky News Australia has relaunched its mobile and tablet apps with a completely new enhanced design, more content than ever before and a wide range of new features.

In 2023, it's time to speak up. The new Sky News Australia app allows you to comment on the biggest issues facing the nation by registering for a free account and engaging in the debate on articles.

The new app has all the video coverage that you already enjoy, with the sharpest political insights from commentators including Sharri Markson, Peta Credlin, Andrew Bolt, Chris Kenny, Paul Murray and Rita Panahi.

You can now play videos using Picture-In-Picture mode, which lets you keep the video playing in a window on your phone as you read articles across the rest of the app or go about your business on different apps on your phone at the same time. You can settle in and Cast videos to your big-screen TV if it is compatible.

The new experience includes a fully-fledged podcasting experience where you can catch up on your favourite Sky News Australia programs in audio format. Keep listening in background mode, or download episodes to your phone so that you can listen offline.

Plus our award-winning political team led by Chief News Anchor Kieran Gilbert and Political Editor Andrew Clennell bring you the latest news as it happens with the introduction of real-time push notifications so you will be the first in the know when big news breaks.

Free speech starts with free thinking and in 2023, Sky News Australia brings you different perspectives on the issues facing us all, so you can make up your own mind.

The new Sky News Australia app lets you:
* Read long-form text articles, breaking news, features, and written contributions from experts
* Save articles to come back to later, and quickly see which articles you’ve already read as the headlines fade if you’ve already read a story
* Embedded videos within articles surface even more background, perspectives and context on the story you’re reading
* Full-screen photo galleries in articles so you get the full picture
* News coverage spans stories related to Australia, World, Opinion, Business and Lifestyle
* Push notifications for the latest breaking news, press conferences, live streams of major events and exclusive stories from Sky News Australia’s newsrooms across the country and around the world
* Native sharing capabilities to easily and quickly forward links to articles and videos across messages, social media and a wide range of compatible apps including Whatsapp
* Join the community and engage in the debate by commenting on top stories in the app
* Videos from your favourite Sky News hosts including Andrew Bolt, Chris Kenny, Paul Murray, Peta Credlin, Piers Morgan, Rita Panahi and Sharri Markson
* Watch the latest news and opinion videos on demand with Picture-In-Picture and Cast support so you can watch while you do other things on your phone, or send it to your compatible big-screen TV
* Catch up on Sky News Australia shows through the ‘Listen’ section of the app that surfaces the latest podcasts and allows you to listen in background mode or download for offline listening

Video issue

I really like the simple interface of the app but recently I haven’t been able to video the videos in horizontal mode despite making sure my Portrait Orientation Lock being off.
Hope this can be fixed

Won’t update

Just in the last few days, the app is not updating news stories. It’s still displaying stories from several days ago. Pulling down to refresh has no effect.

Otherwise…..I like the content. Generally a good app. One thing: as stories are usually fairly short, I can’t see the point of only being able to read one paragraph when first clicked on, and having to click again to see more.

Why only 2 stars?

Because the app keeps telling me I have no internet connection, which is not true at all since I have several other international news apps on my iPhone 11, and there is never a problem
with them. I have unlimited WiFi and do not have any idea why Sky News Australia does not operate properly. It is your app and NOT my
WiFi that does not work.
