Xero Accounting for business 4+

I switched to Xero because I had heard it was great for freelancers but honestly I’ve been a little disappointed with the invoice customisation options. You can’t add custom fields like Invoice Comment or Purchase Order number or Role ID number, there is only one user-defined field which is Reference number. Also a big thing which annoys me is the inability to send invoices from your own email client so you can’t send invoices with you own custom email signature which is important for businesses wanting to keep a professional look. Also customised docx branding themes are limited to Web Safe fonts which means you can’t make invoices and quotes that use your own brand fonts. Functionality is good but needs work on the branding customisation.

Hello, we are sorry you have had frustrations with the Xero accounting app. We understand that a few of the elements you have mentioned are functionality gaps that exist on Web as well, but I assure you our product team are exploring the possibility to implementing some of your feedback.
Regarding sending the invoice from your "email client", the best is to use the Copy button in the Share menu. That will copy the link to the invoice and you will be able to paste it anywhere you want.

Sounds good, but even my small business with what I assume would be simple accounting still has the numbers all messed up. Linked to my business account and I reconcile all transactions, but I still get different numbers between the actual bank balance and the two Xero balances. There is no tech support to call and walk through the issues. As a business I am told I need this, but I don’t know why I pay for it. I can’t even find time to solve the problems it causes. In the end I will likely end up paying someone else to handle it. In my industry we call that double handling. Not an efficient way to work.

Thanks for feedback. The 'good' news is that there are a few reasons why the balance in Xero and your bank balance might not match. Xero has been a solid addition to our small, two-partner business—until now. The subscription changes in 2024 are nothing short of a cash grab. Our monthly costs are set to skyrocket from $65 to $90, with absolutely no added benefits. Even worse, Xero has sneakily slashed the payroll capacity in our current plan from two people to one. This underhanded tactic forces us to upgrade to a higher subscription tier just to maintain our two-person payroll. It's clear that Xero's strategy is to gouge more money from its customers without delivering any additional value. This move is a blatant and shameless attempt to inflate subscription fees. Xero’s response is to say they are catering to the needs of small business with more features. The truth is features are removed, requiring upgrade to a higher subscription to get the features back. More cost to us with no more benefit, but more fees to Xero.

A lot of consideration went into the development of this plan line-up and bundled features, to help meet the needs of small businesses. We know that there are many different features and functionality that different customers want, but sadly we are not able to accommodate everything.
