Translate 4+

When compared to Google Translate this app does very poorly, when you are to type something in it will autocorrect back to English - or whatever language your keyboard is in - which when you are translating from another language is ver frustrating. It doesn’t have many languages, and again in this time in the world you probably should be able to translate into other languages than just Spanish and German. So when trying to translate a conversation I would strongly recommend Google Translate over what looks like Apple’s cheap rip off of Google Translate.

Apple Translate is a very good app! One of its highlighting features is the incredible design. It’s modern with rounded corners, which makes it a joy to use. Another highlighting feature is its unparalleled commitment to user privacy and security, which Google Translate lacks. This alone is what makes it a great alternative because Google freely steals an alarming amount of user data, in return for a ‘better’ experience. All translations made on Apple Translate are completed on device which makes it very secure. Speaking of translations, they are very fast and accurate, which is great. The selection of languages is also good, but it does miss quite a few. However, this isn’t something to concern yourselves about because Apple will inevitably add all languages in the foreseeable future. Overall, I strongly believe that more users should start using Apple Translate as their main translation app!

Given all Apple stands for in the way of perfection in app design (still no iPad Calculator…) it honestly amazes me that they put this clearly flawed translation app out. One of the most important features of a translation app should be to be able to choose an input and output language but I am unable to do this. I can click on a langue on the list but the second I type in the input box it reverts back to a previous selected language. Even closing and restarting the app is not clearing this issue and I so I am left with an app stuck translating German in to English. Another major flaw is the lack of a “swap” language button to allow you to quickly swap the input language between the pair of languages you have previously selected from the drop down list. I muse that the only way such bugs can persist in this app is that no one at Apple uses this app… From my perspective, the only benefit compared to Googles Translate is the size of the app but I think that’s only due to stunted functionality. Please improve.
