When there are seats but you cannot book them

The app works well on most journeys. The one problem is, during Covid, that when you think the bootable seats are gone it is not possible to buy tickets via the app. There are, of course, plenty of seats left.. so this means going to the station early to buy tickets, which defeats part of the purpose of the app! As a business traveller it is often not possible to book travel much in advance, due to shifting diaries. There needs to be a way to book a ticket without a seat reservation. John

Journey to Edinburgh

Carefully avoided weekends in order to avoid disruption Travelled from Reading toBirmingham on Cross country with no problems Arrived in Birmingham and checked phone for messages - none. Checked again 10 minutes before departure and received a message that our train was cancelled. Absolutely no other information or advice. However the train was still showing as on time and the platform signage advised it was the next train due in. It never arrived. It took 20 minutes before the cancellation was confirmed and we ( and about 20 others) were sent to customer. Services. We were advised to get the Preston train an hour later. Then they announced that the Preston train was delayed by 30 minutes, then 40 minutes, then 50 minutes and finally just delayed. Customer services were very unhelpful
We ended up getting a cross country train 2 hours later which cost us in excess Of £300 extra
We missed our appointment and dinner
No apology-just ‘don’t worry you can get a refund!
That was my first and last rail trip to Scotland.I have confirmed why I don’t use trains

Completely Inaccessible With Voiceover

There is simply no excuse for a company who claim to adhere to equality diversity and inclusion; Have staff in post around such values and who are presumably quite happy to pick up plaudits for their public displays of the same to justify having an app which is so woefully inaccessible with Voiceover, the native screen reader on Apple devices. I could not interact with tha app at all as it doesn’t work with Voiceover from the outset. I’d go so far as to say that you’d have to be deliberately obstructive to freeze people with disabilities out in this way, either that or employing app developers who are totally incompetent. I don’t know if Avanti still have their disability forums, I was on one of them last year and still am as far as I know, perhaps they have been closed. I’d suggest Avanti get them up and running again so that we can have a serious conversation with meaningful timelines as to when this app can be made fit for purpose.
