The Barclays app

HOW TO REGISTER
If you’re 16 or over and you have a UK-registered mobile number and a Barclays current account or Barclaycard, you can register for the app. You’ll need the 16 digit number off your card, then follow the onscreen instructions. Some customers may be required to verify their identity with PINsentry or at a Barclays cash machine.

If you’ve got an activation code, follow the onscreen steps to register (you won’t need PINsentry for this).

After you’re set up, you’ll only need your 5-digit passcode to log in. Then you can set up Touch ID or Face ID to log in faster in future.

THE BENEFITS

• Find your nearest branch or cash machine
• Use Mobile PINsentry. It can take up to 4 days for this feature to be activated in the app while we complete some security checks
• Call us straight from the app to speak to an adviser
• No need to log in to lots of apps - view your current accounts held with other banks, safely and securely, in your app
• Our iPhone app has been accredited by AbilityNet – the charity that assesses digital services for accessibility

FOR BUSINESS ACCOUNTS
You can only use the app if you’re a sole-signatory Barclays Business current account holder. You can’t register your Barclaycard business or corporate credit cards.

This app is provided by either Barclays Bank UK PLC or Barclays Bank PLC depending on the entity you may have contracted with for banking services. Please refer to your bank documents (terms and conditions, statements, etc) to confirm the legal entity that provides banking services to you.

Very good, though Logout still a pain.

This App continues to improve in functionality, but doesn’t seem to pay as much attention to the detail of the user interface.
The biggest bugbear is still the Logout, which now can only be accessed by going to the ‘more’ menu. Although you’re in theory logged out when you quit the App, Barclays stress the importance of logging out properly, so why isn’t this feature on the main page?
Other niggles include data entry. For example: If you want to transfer funds between accounts, you select the two accounts, and then the field for the amount. At this point the keypad pops up (on an iPhone), and obscures the amount you’re typing in unless you scroll the window above. This should be an easy thing to avoid at the programming stage, but just smack of a rush to get new features out without thorough testing.
If Barclays can crack the fine detail, they’ll turn a very good App into a superb one. It certainly makes my banking very much easier!

The app is easy to navigate but cheque imaging absolutely useless!!!! Business manager keeps telling I can pay cheques in with my app..... what a joke that is. It let me do one then within the hour it was taken back out of my account..... every one since I’ve tried and it just keeps telling me it needs a clearer picture, I’ve tried all ways in all lights and still it’s not clear enough could be so good but so so frustrating 🤬

Update after update and still no better, no problem with Halifax or HSBC, why oh why is it so hard Barclays, the pictures are so clear it’s just your app won’t read them properly. don’t roll it out until it works properly!!!!!

Another update and still an absolute nightmare to deposit cheques. Keeps telling you that you need a clearer picture, absolute joke the pictures are crystal clear. I don’t want a developers response saying check lighting, check background try this try that... do you not think that has been tried over the wasted hours trying to pay in cheques, it doesn’t matter what lighting or background used your app is not capable of reading them properly... you should be embarrassed that you’re not capable of fixing this update after update when other banks don’t have this problem... embarrassing

Hi there, thank-you for updating your review. Sorry to read that the cheque paying in feature is still causing you problems. We are working on improvements & hope you will feel the benefit of that soon! I know you have said that you've tried different lighting etc. but we do find the following works well:
1) ensure the cheque is not creased 2) use a plain contrasting background 3) have sufficient lighting on the whole cheque.
We will be sharing your feedback with our app developers too!

Smart Investor information display

The app is very useful for all kinds of things: payments, money management, access to documents. And it is very helpful that the Smart Investor information is now available with additional functionality. The thing that stops the Smart Investor facility being completely helpful is the way it calculates the display of the percentage change of the whole portfolio over a year and since the start of the account.

Currently, I have an increase in the value of the account since it started compared to book value of over £XXXX (which is accurate) but it displays the percentage change in brackets as -4%. This is odd. An increase cannot be a percentage decline. And the percentage change figures for the change of the whole portfolio on the day and the change over time of each individual asset are completely accurate.

I rang up the help line, and they saw there was a discrepancy, but thought it was because I had held the account for less than a year. I have now had it for longer than a year and the discrepancy between money value increase and percentage change remains. I am having to keep the same data in other places to get an accurate view of overall value.
