What’s New

Version 5.15.0

We’ve listened to your feedback and made improvements to how live sport and music are signposted in search. With this release when you search for big live events, you will see a live label on programmes either going out live now or being broadcast on a linear channel.

In addition to that, we’ve updated the homepage so you can see even more content to watch without needing to scroll.

Our favourite BBC shows, whenever we want? Perfect! With the option to download and watch offline, we actually look forward to commutes and long flights. And the range of programmes is astounding—from the newest and best to iconic old classics.

Lacks basic features

The overall experience is great - there’s lots of variety and the app functions really well but it lacks some basic features other apps have, which put me off using it. The biggest issue is adding items to your ‘watch later’ section, because you have to click ‘star streaming,’ then press save and every time you want to return to it you have to re-find where you were.

It starts with the most recently released episode, not the first of the series and doesn’t separate them by series which means scrolling to the bottom can take a while. It also doesn’t show you which episodes you’ve viewed on iOS. There’s no easily accessible list of saved shows either so it takes a while to find them on the Home Screen.

Developer Response ,

Hello, thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback on your experience with the app. We will keep note of these for future developments. Thank you - BBC iPlayer App Team.

Difficult to watch audio described programs on the app

Can the development team please put on the roadmap the ability to toggle audio description from the play screen?
Currently, if I want to watch an audio described programme, I have to go into the audio describe section. If I’m lucky, the episode I want will be featured on the first page, otherwise I have to go into the A-Z and find the program i want. However, if it is a series, only the latest episode is shown with audio description. If I select a previous episode, the audio description doesn’t work. Also, if I’m watching an audio described episode from a series and the next episode launches automatically with auto play enabled, the next episode doesn’t play with audio description, even if the website shows that audio description is available. Also, at the moment you cannot currently download audio described programs.
Confusing to read? It certainly is a confusing way to try and watch audio described programs.
