Description

Get the most out of your rides by turning your smartphone into a motorbiking tool thanks to the BMW Motorrad Connected app.

Plan your dream route or import routes as GPX files with our app.

As the app is connected to your motorcycle, you have the option to record all relevant information for your ride.

If your BMW motorcycle is equipped with a TFT display and connectivity functions, simply connect to your motorbike via Bluetooth for this
Your BMW motorbike does not have a TFT display, but it does have a multicontroller and is equipped for a navigation system? Then simply get the ConnectedRide Cradle and transform your smartphone into a motorcycle display.

Whether you select the "Winding" or "Fast" option, thanks to voice commands to your communication system and navigation instructions that are easy to see on the display, you can always keep an eye on your route. The intuitive operation with the multicontroller allows you to safely control everything without having to take your hands off the handlebars.

Do you want to keep your community up to date? Simply share your riding data and photos on social media.

We continuously develop our app for you – and we hope that you'll stay excited to discover its new functions.

Notes for use.
• This app is part of BMW Motorrad Connectivity and can only be used when connected to a vehicle with a TFT display or the ConnectedRide Cradle. The connection is established wirelessly between a smartphone, the vehicle/Cradle and – if available – a communication system via Bluetooth; the app is operated using the multicontroller on the handlebars. We recommend using the BMW Motorrad communication system for listening to music, making telephone calls and receiving navigation instructions.
• A mobile Internet connection is required to access traffic information. This may incur costs in line with the contract between the customer and their mobile provider (e.g. for roaming).
• Please note that the functionality of your smartphone and the connection to the vehicle also depend on national requirements and factors; BMW Motorrad therefore cannot guarantee that it will be available at all times.
• The BMW Motorrad Connected app will be displayed in the language you have set for your smartphone. Please note that not all languages are supported.
• Continued use of GPS tracking in the background may reduce the battery life of your smartphone.

Works well as a navigator, could do with some usability improvements

I find this fine for inputting a destination and having it navigate - either using the phone to show the map when riding my GS, or using the TFT to display it on my RT. It’s reliable, it picks good routes, and is clear and easy to follow.

Management of favourites and saved/planned routes is where it’s lacking functionality for me. There’s no ability to classify or group favourites, and no facility to rename them either. So you end up with just one long list of locations in no particular usable order, which makes understanding what each one is very difficult if you have many of them. Being able to classify them (“hotels”, “museums”, “camp sites”, “transport hubs”, etc.) would make a world of difference. Ideally they should have a custom icon so you can see what they represent on the map.

Similarly, pre-planned routes are presented in a list, ordered by the date you created them. This isn’t helpful if you are planning a future trip - you really need to be able to place all the routes for the trip into a common folder so you can find them all together in one place.

Basic Connection Failures

I’ve watched this app grow in complexity and features since August 2018 and 3 GSs with TFT screens and it’s making real progress in features and usefulness but just when I felt it would replace the Nav 6 on my bike (which is a poor device), the connection to the ‘connected’ app fails all the time. This represents itself by either NO road speed indication from the map or one with ‘- - -‘. It also freezes so despite being on a 70mph road for 10 miles it still shows 30 and will eventually catch up. This seems to be an iPhone issue since 13.3 but that was released nearly a year ago. It’s a great app but when can we expect it to stay connected??

UPDATE: 3.0.2 of the app and iOS 14.4.2 on a GSA 2020 just got worse believe it or not. So much trumpeting across social media of the ‘new app (v3)’, this is such a shame. I have location as ‘always’ and ‘precise location’ on. I don’t switch phone off after it connects, just lay it in bag and speed indicator (still a white square as MPH) is ok for about a mile then goes. Navigation commands continue through my headset but turn-by-turn in TFT is gone and ‘Navigation’ option in TFT ‘dimmed’ and unselectable. You really can’t keep ignoring these issues and blaming Apple. This has been an issue for over 2 years and neither you or dealers seem able to fix it. This is a major feature on a premium motorcycle but it’s now beyond broken. I have tried to help but am losing patience

Developer Response ,

Hi Nick and thanks alot for the renewed feedback! We are very sorry that the app still has connectivity issue. Our developers are working on a solution. Sorry for the inconveniences.

Revised -
I have since my first review found out that you have to keep the app running and not turn the screen off, which then tracks your journey. It has worked well since. Great app. Navigation was also quite accurate and great! As per my email - it would be great if the app worked even when the screen is turned off, showing gear selection; ride rating which analyses throttle input vs speed and braking to really help understand where to improve and rating the overall quality of motorcycle control; ability to share route from Google, Waze, Calimoto etc. to the Connected app. It would then really make it hard to consider any other bikes in the future. But overall, great app so far!

Initial review -
Great app if it works but its not. The tracking of journey is not working properly. The speed limit shows when I am stopped and take my phone out after I unlock it but not when I am riding and have it in my pocket. Maybe its the phone or maybe its the way I am using the phone by just keeping it in the pocket that could be affecting the tracking. Perhaps if someone could clarify?

Developer Response ,

Hello and thanks for your renewed feeback! We are very happy the app is working now and you like it. If you want you can send us your ideas of possible improvement to connectedride@bmw.com. Thank you
