Update: I’ve been using FileBrowser now for a number of years mainly to transfer photos between my Windows PC and my iPads. Recently bought a new Windows 11 laptop and connected to it ok with one iPad but had issue with the other. Prompt response from Support helped resolve that so everything okay now. Continues to be an excellent app for my purposes.Original: I've used a number of clunky ways of getting files from my PC to my iPad involving Skydrive, Dropbox or email attachments. File Browser offers a much easier method of transferring files as well as connecting to memory sticks or external drives plugged into the USB port on my router. I had a minor problem setting up the connection to my PC and had to ask for help from Stratospherix. The reply was very quick and contained simple instructions on how to resolve the problem which was related to my PC set up rather than the app.
Music player need the ability to replay a single track.

So far so good. Was trying to use Google Drive on my phone but it balloons in size as you use it, taking up all your free space. This app on the other hand actually gives you options and the ability to control cached data. Don’t know why a company like Google wouldn’t give you that option. Me preferring this over that can really come down to things as simple as that. It also has an inbuilt music player which once again, Google Drive lacks, though I suppose that’s not Google Drive’s main purpose, however it’s a nice bonus to have here. My issue with it however is that to my understanding, there is no way to replay a single track. Would probably give this app 5 stars if the ability to do this was added in the future. An additional feature I would appreciate not really as important as replaying singular music tracks, would be the ability to loop videos, having them replay as they end. Overall this app gives the user a lot of control over their storage including cloud storages which is great! It supports image viewing including GIFs, (big plus), video and audio playback with dedicated players, an especially big plus for audio files, and it supports document viewing too. You can reorder your files in many different configurations, and manage files, allowing you to move and delete them to your will. The amount of control you’re given is great. That along with its robustness and the amount of media types it supports is what I think makes this app shine. So far worth the price in my opinion, it makes your phone or whatever you’re using even more PC like. Everyone should consider using this.Edit: Video player buffers waaaay too much.
An essential addition

Having bought Affinity Photo, I needed a way to get it to operate properly with my NAS. FileBrowser proved to be the answer. Although the ‘Save’ function on the main screen uses an API that’s only available to iCloud, I can use the space on my SMB shares through the ‘Save a Copy’ command in the image’s document menu. Filebrowser’s plug-in for the native Files app makes this possible, and I haven’t found any other file manager app that offers this functionality. This alone is worth the price of the program. As a bonus, it includes a browser for RAW files that’s far superior to that included in Files or Photos, and I can send a RAW straight to Affinity through the share sheet. If you have plenty of disk space on your local network and want to move large files on and off your iPad without sending them through the internet to iCloud, then this is an essential purchase.
SIMPLY THE BEST
Pig the Younger
This app by Stratospherix is by far the best of its kind. It outpaces every other file organiser I’ve used over the last n years, and the most recent improvements lift it into the astral realm! I opened FileBrowser today, which was the first time for many months, as I’ve been undergoing quite a bit of surgery. Just seeing the layout, with everything so efficiently organised, in a way that’s a pleasure to look at, almost made me weep with relief. It’s always been the app with the easiest interface for seeing what’s where, but the upgraded version is better again!I hardly ever write reviews, but I had to write this because I’m so delighted with the app. It’s made keeping my life in order so much simpler. Thank you, developers at stratospherix - you’ve made an old woman very happy!
