Hive 4+

Just tried the new app…..well thats a step back, as it does not allow me access to the heating and hot water on the ipad. It seems t work ok on the iphone, just not the ipad. I also dont understand why the want to change the interface. There is an old adage, “Don’t fix what a’int broke” leave it alone, it works at the moment so why change it. Just trying to justify their job…. Just had a request from the developer to carry out some actions. Delete the app, restart ipad and reinstall….and it should work. I had to restart the Hive hub, and then it worked. Not sure what was going on, but it appear to work. Will try for a while and see if its reliable. Not sure why its user interface was changed, as i said earlier, it works so why alter it. I will however try it for a while and update with my feeling later.
Update. I have been using the newer beta version, and have to say I am starting to grow to like it. Still has the occasional glitch, but starting to find it easier to use and it now works with Siri.
So I have to say, I am starting to like it.

I've enjoyed my entry into the world of home automation with Hive, but it's time to call it a day and move on. The system works most of the time, it doesn't require lots of fiddling or support. On the odd occasion when things do not work, switching on and off, or waiting for the hive services to be restored is all that's needed. It's very hard to get my data out into other systems though. It would be nice to use all those temperature readings for other things, but I can't. It would be nice to use ifttt to enable my internet switches to do more than just switch bulbs on and off (why bother enabling lights in ifttt if you only add on/off?) Everything's expensive too, I've stopped buying hive bulbs, I can get an Alexa supported colour bulb from Xiaomi for £7, why would I pay £44 for the same from hive? Similar for the new camera. The final straw was the recent announcement that new features may only be available to people who pay another £60 per year for Hive Live. This will put most people off and marks the beginning of a slow death of this service. I'm looking for better value options now, that play better with other services, especially for lights, sensors and cameras. Heating may take a little longer.

Edit: putting our heating history behind a £4/month paywall is just about what I’d expect from Hive at this point. If I move home I’ll leave Hive behind and choose differently next time.

Always crashing. No option to select time frames for camera footage so when the app does crash it takes you right back to the most recent recordings for you to spend ages and ages going back through 1800 videos and then it crashes again. Contacted for support previously because camera goes offline (tonight from 20:35 until 00:46) and I have no footage between those times. Camera set to highest sensitivity but does not record everything often cutting out chunks and ridiculously short clips cutting action into pieces which has proved not helpful. Have abusive neighbours and need this as evidence for police but £180 camera is useless. As well as this, voice controls are pointless as it takes so long for the app to open that whoever was at the door has gone before the app will open. Really helpful when the postman is there and I’m changing my daughter! For the prices you charge for the equipment and installation you ought to have a half decent bloody app! Also having to pay extra for 30 day play back after spending soo much money with you is a massive slap in the face. 30 day play back should be standard! Would not recommend to anyone as there are far better competitors than this. Unfortunately we have too many hive products to make it economical to change! Even your customer service agreed your app is rubbish what does that tell you! Anyone downloading this after buying a product who sees my view do yourself a favour and return then go buy from Nest or similar!
