The Baby Check app has been designed to help you decide whether your baby needs to see a health professional. The app will ask you to check your baby for 17 signs and symptoms and then give you advice as to what you should do next. Spotting early when a baby is very ill early can help in their treatment and recovery. The app will ask you to select answers and these are colour coded either: red – high risk, amber – intermediate risk or green – low risk. The app then adds up your answers as you move through the screens. When you have finished the questions, you are able to see your previous answers and repeat the check if you need to. The app can help you decide what to do if your baby is ill, but we always recommend that you trust your instincts. You should always seek support and advice from your midwife, health visitor, GP, NHS 111 or visit an emergency department if you are worried.

  • Indications for Use
The Infant Wellness Assessment Tool is intended to be used by parents or caregivers to support the assessment of wellness in infants aged 0 to 6 months. The software guides the user through 18 structured assessment questions related to observable symptoms and behaviors. Based on the responses, the application provides a visual risk assessment (Red, Amber, or Green) indicating the level of concern and recommending appropriate next steps.
The tool is intended to aid decision-making regarding the need to seek medical advice or intervention. It is not intended to provide a diagnosis, replace clinical judgment, or be used as a sole basis for treatment decisions.

    Intended Users
    Primary: Parents and caregivers
  • Safety Information
  • Warnings:
Baby Check does not provide a diagnosis. It is intended to support decision-making and should not replace clinical judgment or professional medical advice.

If your infant displays signs of severe illness (e.g. difficulty breathing, unresponsiveness, seizures, or a bulging fontanelle), seek immediate emergency medical care, regardless of the app’s output.

Do not delay seeking medical help based solely on a Green (low-risk) result if you remain concerned about your child’s health.

The application is intended only for infants aged 0–6 months. Use outside this age range may result in inaccurate assessments.

The app relies entirely on accurate and complete user input. Inaccurate answers may lead to incorrect risk assessments.

The software should be used on supported devices and operating systems. Use on unsupported platforms may result in unreliable performance.
    Precautions:
Always read the in-app guidance and disclaimers before completing the assessment.

Ensure the app is kept up to date to maintain safety and effectiveness.

The application should be used in a quiet, distraction-free environment to help ensure accurate responses.

Do not share sensitive information unless explicitly permitted. The app does not transmit data by default.

The tool is intended for use within the United Kingdom and may not reflect clinical practice or triage guidelines in other countries.
