Learn Japanese!! - Hiragana 4+

Absolutely brilliant

Okay, so the idea of learning Japanese - as a native English speaker - was absolutely terrifying, but this app makes everything SO much simpler. I’ve been using it for a month and already I know half of hiragana off by heart and I’ve only been using it 3-4 times per week. It breaks down huge pieces of information into tiny chunks and just tests you on those, and when you’re confident enough with one set, you can move onto the next set at your own pace and test yourself at any time. If there was one thing I could think of to improve it then it would be the font of the letters. Obviously I’m no expert but I found it a little hard to sometimes make them out when I compare them to how the symbols appear in text on my phone/in other Japanese handwriting. It just seems a little too fancy for amateurs, but other than that I really have no complains. It’s excellent.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS APP. —> As off now I’m a total beginner but I know if I dedicate myself to this app I should some day fully understand all 3 alphabets that are in the language of Japanese, the app is quiet restricted at first but I knew from only doing the fist group in the first hiragana chart that I wanted the expansion, also on top of that the fact you can see what syllables you struggle with and ones you don’t is an amazing addition I loved that little feature, but I know there’s a long way to go but with dedication I am sure this app will lead me on to a good track, the only thing that worries me is that I don’t know but there isn’t really an option to set up an account but if there was I’ve totally forgot. I just think that there should be an account system because say I spend years on this app and my phone gets destroyed I will have to start from scratch as you cannot do a group unless you compliant the one before an that would really annoying as I have also payed for the expansion and if I loose my data and would need to buy it back I probably would but some people might be cheap and complain about it but other than that I deeply feel this app is amazing, I would just appreciate the devs would make a system when I can set up an account.

If you are logged in to an iCloud account on your phone then it is saving your purchases and all of your progress which serves as a backup and allows you to have the data synced with an iPad.

Brilliant app!

I have just committed to learning to speak Japanese for a 50th birthday in Japan. With 2000 words making up 70% of spoken Japanese, and hiragana and katakana being their sounds, this app is the ONLY one that teaches you how to write the characters. There are other resources (eg Genki 1) but these assume high level command of languages; this app starts you off at vowel sounds and how to write them out! Very quickly you start to be able to spot common characters and sounds that you will use. I use this app in conjunction with a book (2000 common words in Japanese). Apps that show videos of someone ELSE writing the hiragana and katakana are £70 wasted for a beginner. 10 words per day and being able to write them all means in 6 months I will be somewhere near confident...wait out - review updates to follow!
