The thing about audible and other large audiobook (or e-book) companies is they funnel all the money away from local bookshops. Libro allows you to nominate a real life book shop to receive a portion of the money you spend on the audiobooks. The catalogue is the same as Audible’s. However after using it for a single day it’s obvious that it’s easier to use, easier to sync with your watch (Audible’s design for this requires a degree to achieve) and for once I’m not shovelling yet more money into Big Tech’s pockets. What a delight! And it costs the same as audible. I hope they develop more offerings, such as a bigger value deal by buying more credits in advance. Other than that this is an untouchable service. Highly recommended.

I love this app, because it supports independent and local bookshops, which is what it’s all about. There’s nothing more delightful than wandering into an indie bookshop and stumbling upon a book that you never would’ve bought otherwise - each indie bookshop is different and unique, and that’s why we have to keep them going.

I got Libro as soon as I heard about it, it supports local bookshops and allows you to own the books you buy. The selection isn’t as good as some other apps, but hopefully that will grow with time. However, the app itself is clunky and disorganised, the recommendations make no sense and playback is very hit and miss in that it stops at random times and won’t start again without reopening the app.

I love supporting bookshops and was always sad that I couldn’t do this at the same time as indulging in audiobooks. But now I can! The app is well designed too and the engagement makes you feel part of a community. By far the best audiobook option out there.
