I run an outdoor activity company in the Peak District and my family and I get out and about a lot, so I tend to spend any free cash at Decathlon. There are three reasons for this. 1. The quality of the goods in store is second to none. 2. The customer service is amazing. When anything needs changing or isn’t quite right, the staff and Decathlon themselves will bend over backwards to sort it for you. 3. The staff. From the experts, to the store staff and all the way through to the security guard, they are all incredibly helpful and upbeat. If I could do all of my shopping at Decathlon I wouldn’t hesitate to do so. Keep up the great work Nottingham, Giltbrook 😋👍

I think this new app is a step backwards for three main reasons: 1. The information architecture is unclear — it forces you into search rather than browse and the search results are not brilliant. 2. Searching for size and colour variations is clunky and laborious — you have to go though each colour variation in turn to see whether a size is available instead of just selecting a size and being shown the variations available in that size. 3. There are too many errors with the catalogue — on multiple occasions I’ve clicked products in the Product Listing Pages only to receive the message “an error occurred while retrieving the product information”. But it’s not just the app, the whole Decathlon digital ecosystem seems to have got worse. There doesn’t appear to be a shared or omni basket when logged in, so what I put in my cart on my laptop is not shown in the app and vice versa. This is an expected feature in 2024 and if a small business like Sport Pursuit can do it, it surprises me it’s beyond a behemoth like Decathlon! I’ve also been totally unable to find Favourites on the website — another standard e-commerce feature. From my perspective (as a professional digital strategist) the Decathlon digital strategy needs some work.

Enjoying the purchases, quality is superior for the prices purchased. Have kitted out my wardrobe with hiking gear, a couple of tents, and camping items. Things seem sturdy, good quality and build to last a good few years. I usually buy Quechua items, but do have old forclaz stuff which is still going strong. I’m a size 12 regular uk, unless the sizing is numbered, large is the size which best fits a 12. Anyways, all of the labels can be cut off easily and stored, a nice touch. The app could benefit from the kiss - keep it simple, stupid ! It’s very clunky, not intuitive. You can’t enlarge pictures, only in its wee box which is no use. Make the layout simple- there’s a reason it works take for example, passenger clothing website. Easy and simple to navigate, which means more time choosing items, therefore, more sales ! I’m not so fond of the outside brands, so you could perhaps offer two buttons, one for decathlon only products, one for everything. Might be a niche, but worth putting forward. Also if you can simplify checkout perhaps a pop saying you have a voucher want to use it click yes and it automatically pops it into the checkout.

Decathlon worked hard on the app

It has a great experience, beautifully designed user interface and well integrated features. Adding your card to Apple wallet is brilliant. Sign in experience is great. Upon launching you can quickly display membership card for use at the tills. Long press on the Home Screen app icon allows you to also view the card. As well as double press power button and on your watch. The watch needs a barcode however as the screen is small thus expecting users to read number off of an Apple Watch is unrealistic. (See Tesco, Subway, kfc for good examples. Nectar bad example). Downsides: when tracking your order the track button takes you to a site where you must enter your order number. The app does not allow you to copy your order number from the previous screen to paste on the tracking site. Major oversight. Keep up the good work.
