Ground News is a profoundly important advancement in news analysis and content delivery. Ground News is the breakthrough we’ve been waiting for to ensure a better and brighter future for news delivery and comprehension.Ground News is a transcendent news delivery system, rising and residing above the daily information battlefield of bias, spin and divisive talking heads. Today, the sad truth about almost every news outlet is that they prey on their user’s attention spans in order to create polarised buckets for advertising spend. Then to make matters worse, they invest in wasteful AI to detect fake news, which is like throwing gasoline on a dumpster fire in a frying pan full of the innocent. The real solution to the toxic information war is the excellent and healthy approach represented by Ground News. In particular, Ground News integrates and unifies many diverse news sources into a single stream of unbiased and inclusive information, clearly labelled, and all in one easy to understand feed.What’s more, the Ground News app is beautiful and has great visualisations, from analytical histograms to geolocation information on a virtual Earth. Outstanding and excellent work Ground News team, these are huge achievements and home runs.Finally, it must be noted that the Ground News team is a small but mighty team of talented and hard working developers with excellent leadership at the helm. Remember what Margaret Mead said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

I like the sentiment of the app, however the delivery leaves me feeling underwhelmed or at least, not surprised. Some news sources it has as Centred are well know left leaning and the factually can sometimes be down to semantics in the wording over any real obvious misuse of the truth.As a UK user, there are a lot of international sites covered, some of which are either not accessible from your location, or hidden behind a paywall so you cannot read the article. The Blindspot function is interesting to see how different Main Stream Manipulators are curating their version of the truth for their respective audiences. Same for the Bias insights. Another interesting addition highlighting how Main Stream Manipulators omit certain facts or phrase certain points differently to reflect their policy or agenda. Ultimately, the app curates the News, places the outlet in a Left, Centre or Right category, and then uses AI to gauge how much of the reporting is factual and or biased. No issues with the app itself, logging in or operation. Technically it appears sound.Worth a subscription if even for short time just to see how the news is reported differently by those with a different political agenda. The app enables you to explore other news sources other than the Main Stream Manipulators which I highly recommend for your own mental health.

It's also important to note that the factuality ratings are about the news sources themselves, not any particular article, so we're not providing any "fact checking" of the article. Instead, we're providing factuality ratings based on the source's history of reporting and whether they use original reporting, or whether they make immediate corrections or not, for example. You can read more about our methodology here: https://ground.news/rating-system I'm not sure if you know but you can filter out paywall sources by using the Sort & Filter tool in the app. We're always working on a more universal paywall filter that will only need to be set up once. Update 7 months later (original below) - seven months after my original review and the developer responding to say they would make changes, and absolutely nothing has changed - so not only has the developer shown zero moral fortitude by omitting basic accessibility, they have proven themselves cowardly liars by failing to make very necessary changes - avoid this app at all costs!I really wanted to like this app, but like so many others on the App Store today the authors have taken a conscious and deliberate exclusionary approach to accessibility by enforcing an unreasonably small text size, ignoring system APIs for automatic adjustment of text sizes that have been standard for a decade and a half, and provided zero ability to increase the size of text in the app anywhere in the app settings. While I’m sure the content is helpful, the fact that the developers have actively chosen to block access to people with sight impairments or other issues with small text tells me all I need to know to relegate this app to the trashcan of digital history!

Ground News provides a flawlessly designed app, bringing factuality to an industry which is so often shrouded in uncertainty. Where truth is a valuable commodity these days, Ground News is clarity. It uses complex software to create engaging tangents on the website, like ‘blindspot’ for example, which shows you news you may not usually be exposed to in your social media echo chamber. It also helps you to understand the inner workings of journalist roles in the political system, and how different newspapers serve different agendas based on their donors and readers. I would say that it’s pretty hard to be objective about certain news sources’ political viewpoints or standings, especially in such a black and white way, but it’s a good start in identifying news reporting bias. I love it.
