I don’t usually bother reviewing the apps I have but, I’ve just read some of the reviews on Google so here goes. I’ve had this app for years, possibly since before there was a premium version. I’ve never had any problems with it. I decided to pay the £5/year as I liked if so much. I’ve used it in Scotland and Europe on walking, skiing and even beach holidays. I usually switch to flight mode when on long walks which I expect to take more than 8hrs. I click the screen off when I put it in my pocket and it’s there to flip on again when I want. I like that you are always “ looking “ towards the top of your phone as this means that if you are looking in the direction you are going you walk towards the top of the phone and the map orientates under you, OS maps don’t doo this which can be a bit annoying and yes I have that app too and pay a bit more for it as there is more details in the map. It’s great that you can share walks with others. All in all I have no complaints with this tidy little app.
Great app

Wiki loc is a great app for the great outdoors. I mainly use it for off-road driving in Saudi Arabia where there is often no mobile signal and no maps. It tracks your route and allows you to add notes and photos as you go along to help other people follow your route. Only improvements should be to cache google earth satellite imagery easier, currently I have to scroll through the whole route and surrounding area. Other improvements should be able to edit your route after you have finished it i.e to delete the section where you took a wrong turn and to be able to add more waypoints and use more than 6 photos from your slr camera. The search passing place function needs to be a bigger area to search.

iPad version/ turn off snap to route?
Tim Allen
I love this app and the interface is clear and concise. However think there are some things missing which other apps have. I like to plot routes where the route sometimes does not snap to trails / roads etc. as this automatically calculates the route when you add a point. This can be frustrating. I may be able to create all my route and then get to a point where I can’t get any further as it’s just not letting me go the way I want. Places like Madeira where popular routes sometimes close sections because of weather means I have to adjust the route. However the recommended adjustment online won’t be recognised in the app as a trail in the app so I can’t do it. If there was a way to switch to manual plotting then this would fix it. Also with the ability to plot a route in the app, we ideally like an iPad version. Bigger screen and being able to use the Apple Pencil makes plotting much easier. Sadly I have to use another app to do this which means more expense. An all in one app would be great and it’s so close here but not quite

Thank you for your review, Tim. You may manually draw a trail using the trail drawing tool available on our website: https://help.wikiloc.com/article/262-draw-drawing-creating-trail-web-tool-manual
A great App but room for improvements

I am using Wikiloc in Spain. It is proving very useful but has some issues. First, it uses A LOT of battery, especially if recording a trail. On my fairly new iPhone it will drain the battery in 5-6 hours. In the UK I use memory map which is much less power hungry so this issue could be improved. Second when trails are downloaded they hide the map information underneath. You don’t know whether you are on a road, a path or in open country. A transparent route track would be an improvement. Third, the default method of use us to download a trail and then navigate it while recoding your own path on the trail for uploading and sharing. It would be better if just navigating trails were the default with recording as an option. For one thing this results in many duplicate or near duplicate trails being uploaded. For another, recording drains the battery fast.
Bug fixes and performance improvements.
