Since becoming vegan a year and a half ago this app has literally been a lifesaver for me. I am literally the only vegan I know so I have had no source of information when it comes to places to eat so in the beginning had to do a lot of googling this app takes away any hassle. Then finding out it works abroad ! Just Amazing ! I’ve been on holiday twice and would have massively struggles if not for this app. And I love how you can add any new finds. So easy to use and love the reviews aspect. I can officially say this is my favourite app of all time - thank you!

So this app is brilliant for finding places to eat when you’re visiting somewhere new. However, in an ideal world I would only eat in fully vegan establishments.. in practice this is not generally possible. Historically the app has listings for vegan and non- vegan places but now you can’t add reviews for new non vegan places. This means that the data isn’t current, you could be visiting a place that has no fully vegan places and you are only given previously listed non vegan places… meaning any new non vegan places that have great options and reviews aren’t located.I am super fussy about non vegan places I visit so on a recent holiday with limited fully vegan places to visit I ended up using the app and visiting mediocre non vegan places with average vegan offerings. Then when I did find a non vegan place that wasn’t on the app with a great menu I couldn’t write about it in the app…. This could mean that a business who has made the effort to put together an exciting vegan menu could be overlooked by visiting vegans and end up reducing or removing their vegan menu

Hello Kristin, Nothing has changed regarding our submission process, we still list businesses which are not vegan but have vegan options,.... it's only that the queue is HUGE due to Summer traffic and the wait on new listings to be added which aren't vegan will take much longer. A great help when somewhere new but with one fundamental issue!

The Happy Cow app is an absolute godsend when we’re visiting somewhere we’ve not been before.As most will know, using a search engine and asking for vegan restaurants nearby is very hit-and-miss as the results tend to be based around businesses that have paid to have their profiles raised. Manchester is a good example: If you were to search Google there are surprisingly few options yet, if you use Happy Cow, there’s a huge list.The only real issue with the app is that, whilst it allows businesses that serve meat to be listed (provided they do offer at least one plant-based item), it will not list businesses that serve lamb, foie gras and a few other animal-derived horrors. Whilst I understand the principle behind this, it means that a restaurant that might have numerous vegan options doesn’t get listed. On the basis that the farming of, and consumption of, all animals is ‘wrong’, why differentiate between certain degrees of wrong, especially when it’s to the detriment of vegans looking for somewhere to eat? It doesn’t make any sense to me and means that LOTS of eateries that do cater for vegans are not listed. Not very helpful if you’re abroad and really struggling to find somewhere to eat, as we were recently.

Like yelp for Vegans! It’s a great resource for wherever my partner and I travel to find plant based food. Happy Cow is monitored by actual people meaning that they verify each listing, unlike Yelp, and Trip Advisor where every listing states ‘vegan options’ when in fact they have zero! The more everyone contributes to the resource the more awesome it becomes.You can plan a holiday or road trip to a fun Vegan location using HAPPY COW!As a worldwide database, Happy Cow allows you to see vegan, and vegan-friendly places across the world.Happy Cow, can help with holidays, day-trips, and special meals out, safe in the knowledge that we'll have somewhere to eat. The filters allow you to search for just vegan venues too if you want, so you can make sure you're not sat looking at Carnists, smelling steak fumes, or having to worry about deciphering an unlabelled menu.
